Colorado Rockies second baseman Garrett Hampson is still vying for a call up to replace injured DJ LeMahieu. Hampson was recently promoted to Triple-A Albuquerque, and while his .233 batting average isn’t terribly impressive, his .368 on-base percentage is no laughing matter. Hampson has continued his impressive patience at the Triple-A level by racking up more walks than strikeouts there as well, giving him a 28/22 K/BB ratio across two levels this season. The linchpin in his promotion is how long DJ LeMahieu will actually be out of commission, and so far, that's an unknown. LeMahieu has been making notable progress in returning from a fractured thumb, but there’s a big step between playing catch and hitting major league pitching. With the current combination of Daniel Castro and Pat Valaika hitting just .143 over the last week and Colorado in the thick of a pennant race, Hampson might still get the call.--Billy Stonick - RotoBaller
