Freddie Freeman 2019 Outlook: Consistency is Key
6 years agoAtlanta Braves first baseman Freddie Freeman is the epitome of consistency. He has had a batting average between .302 and .309 and an on-base percentage between .388 and .403 for each of the past three seasons. While his power numbers have declined over those three seasons, he has changed his approach at the plate to take advantage of the entire field. Last season, Freeman led the league in doubles (44) and base hits (191), while not missing a game for the entirety of the season. His 2018 performance resulted in a fourth-place finish in the MVP voting. With an Atlanta Braves offense that continues to improve each year with top prospects coming to fruition at the MLB level, Freeman should see success once more at the plate in 2019. He should see more opportunities with men in scoring position than in his entire career leading up to now. To put it bluntly, it would not surprise me one bit to see Freeman as the number one first baseman at the end of the season, as he currently is ranked as the second-best first baseman, trailing just Paul Goldschmidt, the 19th overall player. If Freeman slips to the third round, snag him from the draft pool, but feel comfortable taking him in the second round, as his value is tremendous.
