Eric Lauer Breezes Past Giants
Eric Lauer cruised for six innings in Thursday’s victory against the San Francisco Giants. After receiving the surprise nod for Opening Day, the 23-year-old fired a gem, allowing zero runs, four hits and a walk while striking out three. Lauer was in control all game as he outdueled Giants starter Madison Bumgarner, requiring only 70 pitches before yielding to the bullpen. After a turbulent start to his career, Lauer will look to build off a strong finish last season to help steer a young and inexperienced Padres rotation with low expectations. He’ll be on the streaming radar next Tuesday when the Friars host the Arizona Diamondbacks.
