Dustin May 2020 Outlook: Potential Source of Innings, Wins
5 years agoThe Dodgers organization had a quiet offseason which bodes well for its collection of talented rookies knocking on the door of the Majors Leagues. Young hurler Dustin May isn’t the most electric pitcher but he knows how to pitch and does a lot of things well. His game revolves around his above-average control and command. After spending time in both Double-A and Triple-A during the first two-thirds of 2019, May arrived in the Majors in August and appeared in 14 games (including four starts) during the regular season. In 34.2 big league innings, he walked just five batters compared to 35 strikeouts. His ground-ball tendencies also served him well in the offense-fuelled environment and he allowed just two home runs following trends from his minor league career. May is mostly a two-pitch pitcher with his fastball and cutter so an improved changeup or curveball could make him even more potent and cause his good-but-not-great strikeout rate to rise. As a member of a very good baseball club, this right-handed hurler should have a chance to earn a lot of wins while throwing 180-190 innings.
