Donovan Peoples-Jones 2023 Outlook: Crowded Target Competition Could Expire Fantasy Relevance
2 years agoCleveland Browns wide receiver Donovan Peoples-Jones posted career-highs in receptions (61), yards (839), and touchdowns (3) during the 2022 season and looked to be gaining fantasy football value. However, the team traded for former Jets wide receiver Elijah Moore and drafted Tennessee wide receiver Cedric Tillman in the third round of the 2023 NFL Draft. That said, there's suddenly a lot more target competition aside from Amari Cooper and David Njoku. Peoples-Jones remained the lone big-bodied wideout when Moore was shipped to Cleveland, but the Tillman selection could spell bad news for DPJ. Tillman (6'3", 215) could occupy the X-receiver role that Peoples-Jones was expected to hold, meaning there's an outcome where People-Jones doesn't have much fantasy value in traditional fantasy leagues. Instead, he may only have value in Best Ball leagues for the few spike weeks he'll provide with big-play touchdowns in a potential ascending Browns offense. It's tough to see a path where Peoples-Jones doesn't regress statistically in 2023.
