DL Hall 2023 MLB Player Outlook: Tantalizing Lefty Needs To Overcome Control Issues
2 years agoThe No. 6 prospect in the Baltimore Orioles system, pitcher DL Hall made his major league debut in 2022. He only started one game and appeared in 11 total, going 13 2/3 innings. The lefty registered a 5.93 ERA during that time but had a FIP of 1.65 while striking out 29.7% of the batters he faced. That number was on the low side compared to his numbers in the minors. Walks have been the killer for Hall, as he walked 14.2% of hitters faced in 22 AAA games last season. The Orioles have stated they plan to give him a shot at starting in 2023, and he's someone with tantalizing stuff that will entice fantasy owners. The 24-year-old may be hard-pressed to find a job in the MLB rotation to start the year and may pitch out of the pen at times, but he should have enough time to make about 15 starts. Baltimore should be better this season, but Hall won't be a great source of wins, and his control issues will likely lead to a bloated WHIP. ATC projects the flamethrower with a 3.58 ERA and an 11.57 K:9, so he should be helpful in those two categories.
