Devin Singletary 2024 Outlook: Opening-Day Starter With Capped Upside
3 months agoNew York Giants running back Devin Singletary joined the organization on a three-year deal this offseason following the departure of longtime Giants do-it-all weapon Saquon Barkley. Singletary was surprisingly productive last year during his one-year stint with the Houston Texans, racking up nearly 1,100 yards from scrimmage and four total touchdowns while supplanting Dameon Pierce in the RB1 role. However, playing alongside Daniel Jones in New York will be much different than playing in the electric Houston offense led by C.J. Stroud. While Singletary exceeded expectations last season, he still ranked outside the top 30 running backs in true yards per carry (4.1) yards per touch (4.4), and yards created per touch (2.98). Ultimately, the 27-year-old has never been an overly efficient or explosive back, and he's now set to play in one of the worst offenses in the NFL. Defenses will likely stack the box against Jones, and the team's lack of high-end pass-catchers outside of rookie Malik Nabers suggests the offense will fail to sustain drives, thus limiting Singletary's touchdowns upside. He has a path to PPR success with receiving volume, but rookie running back Tyrone Tracy Jr. is a converted wideout, so he could immediately be utilized in the pass-catching role. Although Singletary looks like a value pick at his RB28 cost, his low ceiling makes him an unattractive fantasy selection.
