Devin Funchess 2018 Outlook: Will He Still Eat Even With Lots Of Mouths To Feed?
6 years agoThe Carolina Panthers enjoyed a tremendous breakout by wide receiver Devin Funchess last season, as he totaled career highs in targets (111), receptions (63), yards (840) and touchdown receptions (8). The majority of his damage was done with Greg Olsen injured, but the veteran tight end will be back and healthy to begin the 2018 season. Additionally, the Panthers drafted wide receiver DJ Moore with the 24th overall pick in the NFL Draft and Christian McCaffrey finished with 113 targets and 80 catches as well.
With this many mouths to feed in the Carolina offense, it could be very tough for Funchess to replicate his 2017 season due to a regression in targets. Having Moore in the offense could very well light a fire under Funchess to continue to produce at a high level and continue to be looked at as a primary option, especially in red zone situations.
His current ADP slates him as a mid-round pick in the sixth/seventh rounds. Ideally, it would be good to draft a highly targeted receiver with a large number of receptions to pair with a red zone target in Funchess on your team.
