Derrick Henry 2020 Outlook: An RB1 We Should Stop Doubting
5 years agoTennessee Titans running back Derrick Henry has been an easy player to discount in fantasy for some time. He is a bruising runner whose style makes him prone to injuries. He isn’t particularly involved in the passing game. The Titans didn’t give him consistent touches until the end of his third NFL season. These were all valid concerns heading into last season’s drafts, but they should no longer be issues for owners in redraft leagues. Henry has been nothing short of a beast in 21 of his past 22 NFL games (including playoffs). Last year, Henry saw 82% of his team’s rushes within five yards of the goal-line and 76% of his team’s red-zone rushes. These numbers are both at the top of the League, and they are excellent indicators of touchdown opportunity. This team has shown no indications that Henry’s usage will drop this season, either, though their use of the Franchise Tag on him does spell some doubt about future seasons. Thus, Henry’s current ADP as the 7th overall pick is a good value in redrafts, but his murky long-term outlook may mean that players like Josh Jacobs or Joe Mixon could sneak ahead of him in dynasty formats.
