Dennis Schroder 2019 Player Outlook
5 years agoDennis Schroder finds himself amongst a select group of players that saw their upcoming 2019-20 season fortunes take a drastic upswing due to the removal of players above them on the depth chart. Schroder joined the Thunder ahead of last season and embraced his role as the primary scorer off the bench, at times complimenting Russell Westbrook down the stretch of games. But in the wake of Westbrook’s trade to Houston, Schroder is in line to reclaim an expanded offensive role. After back-to-back seasons averaging 6.3 and 6.2 assists in ’16-17 and ’17-18 with the Hawks, respectively, Schroder accrued just 4.1 per game last year. While there are fewer complimentary weapons on the Thunder roster, that number is likely to take a slight bump with the ball in his hands more frequently, as is his 41.4 percent overall field-goal percentage. The ambiguity of Chris Paul’s long-term tenure in Oklahoma City furthers makes Schroder an interesting long-term play, as he would likely see a significant boost in usage should the team choose to move in a younger direction.
