David Wright’s Future Remains As Murky As Ever
7 years agoWill New York Mets third baseman David Wright be on the field, or not? We’ve been asking that question every winter/spring for quite awhile. Unfortunately the answer is usually no. Wright has dealt with a variety of spine and neck issues over the last few years, the latest of which prevented him from getting on the field at all in 2017. Even if he’s ready to go by Opening Day, the spinal stenosis Wright suffers from prevents him from playing everyday and so it's hard to imagine a realistic scenario where Wright would receive enough plate appearances for fantasy consideration. On top of that, the last time he played in 2016, it looked as though he was taking major steps backward. It’s sad, but we may have seen the last of David Wright on a baseball field. If he is truly done, he’ll retire to an excellent .296/.376/.491 slash line with 242 home runs, 949 runs scored, and 970 RBI across 1,583 games played. Hats off to you, David.
