Chicago Cubs relief pitcher Codi Heuer (elbow) will miss all of the 2022 season after having successful Tommy John surgery on Tuesday, according to a source familiar with the situation. The 25-year-old was part of the trade that sent closer Craig Kimbrel to the Chicago White Sox last year. Heuer is a hard-throwing, high-leverage reliever who posted a 3.14 ERA in 28 2/3 innings for the Cubs in 2021. The right-hander had a 5.12 ERA, 1.42 WHIP, 39 strikeouts and 10 walks in 38 2/3 relief innings for the White Sox before he was traded at midseason. Heuer's injury is a big loss for the Cubs, as they were likely planning to use him as a late-inning setup man to closer Rowan Wick. Manuel Rodriguez and Brad Wieck could get more opportunities in the eighth inning now.--Keith Hernandez
