Christian Kirk 2020 Outlook: A Risky Proposition
5 years agoIn 2019, Christian Kirk improved upon his solid (albeit shortened) 2018 rookie campaign by hauling in 68 of 108 targets for 709 yards and three touchdowns. He was a solid deep threat in 2019 as noted by his six catches of 20 yards or more as well as his 78 air yards per game, which accounted for 26.5% of the Cardinals total air yards. Each of the latter two ranked him within the top 20 percent of the league. All of this came despite missing three games over the course of the season. This is certainly something to keep in mind heading into 2020 as he has now missed a total of seven games in his first two seasons. Aside from the possible injury concerns, is the fact that the Cardinals recently traded for DeAndre Hopkins, who is an absolute target monster and widely regarded as the best wide receiver in the league. This should almost certainly mean a cut in targets for Kirk in 2020 as he now must contend with Hopkins and Larry Fitzgerald who led the team in targets a season ago. Kirk currently has an overall ADP of 62 and is being taken as the 29th wide receiver off the board. While he has a good chance to rank inside the top 30 at the position, the injury risk, as well as the addition of Hopkins, may prove too much for Kirk to overcome, and therefore, should probably be drafted just a bit later to have a solid value return.
