Christian Kirk 2018 Player Outlook: Rookie Wideout In Line For Big First-Year Role
6 years agoThe Arizona Cardinals drafted their slot receiver of the future when they used a second-round draft pick on Texas A&M wideout Christian Kirk. While Larry Fitzgerald has the slot receiver position on lockdown for the near future, Kirk could slide into the role as early as 2019, if Fitzgerald chooses to retire. Even with Fitzgerald in the fold in 2018, Kirk has a path to a meaningful role and could possibly operate as the team's No. 3 option in the passing game after Fitzgerald and David Johnson. He doesn't have much competition ahead of him on the depth chart as he only has to beat out one-dimensional burner J.J. Nelson and career backup Brice Butler. Of the rookie wide receivers in the 2018 class, Kirk should finish as the top producer in 2018, which makes him an intriguing target in the later rounds of redraft leagues.
