Chris Owings Is A Cheap Power-Speed Option
7 years agoChris Owings is a power-speed option for the diamondbacks but has a health concern. He missed most of 2107 due to a broken finger. Up until that point Owings was having a decent year. He had a career high in home runs (12); he also had 12 stolen bases. On the other side, Owings needs improvement in a few areas. His on-base percentage (.299) is well below average because he has a very poor base on balls percentage of 4.4. Owings also was greatly advantaged by his home park where had a .315 average, as opposed to his .219 average on the road. He also had an on base plus slugging of .741, but he had an OPS of only .685 against left-handed pitchers. Lastly, Owings is still recovering from surgery on his finger. Thanks to a trade of his competition, Owings will have the inside track to winning the second base job. However, he will no longer be advantaged with a hitter-friendly park with the humidor deflating some of his power potential. Owings has eligibility at shortstop, second base, and outfield. Owings should only be drafted in National League only leagues, but not in any OBP leagues.
