Charles Clay 2019 Outlook: Clay Melts in the Desert
6 years agoOne of the many mistakes Rex Ryan made while in Buffalo was to sign Charles Clay to a massive contract after one solid season in Miami. Finally, the Bills have been able to rid themselves of this mistake this offseason, by letting him go to Arizona and sign with the lowly Cardinals.
Whether he is the starter or backup he will have a tough time in the desert. Ricky Seals-Jones is there and is not a stellar player by any means, and the Cardinals know this. This is why after a season with just 21 receptions and 185 yards in 13 games he decided to go and take an offer. The fantasy world is all atwitter with the buzz of Kliff Kingsbury bringing his air raid offense to Arizona. This means good things for the receivers for sure, including Larry Fitzgerald and Christian Kirk, with David Johnson also likely seeing a bump. Eventually others will get involved as well. Rookies Andy Isabella and Hakeem Butler are coming in with quarterback Kyler Murray, and these players, along with Kirk and Johnson, will be the core of the team once Fitzgerald decides to finally hang up his cleats. Nowhere in this paragraph did you see me mention a tight end. Not Ricky Seals-Jones and certainly not Charles Clay.
At this point of his career Clay is a bounce around tight end. Someone you bring into backup whatever player is already there in case of injury. This is not the type of player you would draft in a fantasy league, and nor should he be the type of player you want to keep on a dynasty roster.
