5 months agoToronto Blue Jays relief pitcher Chad Green shut the door against the Houston Astros on Tuesday night, picking up his third save of the season while allowing one hit on two strikeouts in a 7-6 victory. Green gave up a leadoff double to Jeremy Pena, but then struck out the next two batters and put away Jose Altuve with a fly out to end the ball game. The 33-year-old veteran is having a career year with the Blue Jays with his season ERA at 1.37. He's on pace for a career-low strikeout rate, but what he's been lacking in strikeouts, he's been making up for with only three earned runs in 19 2/3 innings. While Jordan Romano (elbow) and Yimi Garcia (elbow) are sidelined, Green should remain the interim closer, barring any possible trades happening at the deadline.--Joey Inglese - RotoBaller
