Carter Yakemchuk Signs Entry-Level Contract With Senators
4 months agoThe Ottawa Senators have signed defenseman Carter Yakemchuk to a three-year entry-level contract. The Senators selected Yakemchuk with the seventh pick in this year's draft following the young blue-liner's fantastic WHL campaign. Playing for the Calgary Hitmen, Yakemchuk scored 30 goals and 71 points in 68 appearances. Yakemchuk, who will celebrate his 19th birthday next month, is expected to return to the WHL for the 2024-25 season, but the Senators see him having a big role with the team in the future. "Carter has a bright future ahead of him," said Senators general manager Steve Staios. "He's an offensively-gifted defenseman who's competitive and who has an NHL-ready shot. With continued development, we expect him to become a key member of our defense corps for many years to come."
