Brett Phillips Goes Yard In Blowout Loss
5 years agoKansas City Royals outfielder Brett Phillips didn't have much of an impact on the overall game since the Royals got destroyed by Oakland, but he did record his first MLB home run of the season when he golfed a 2-2 breaking ball just over the wall down the line in right. Phillips' two-run shot seemed to get the Royals back in the game after they had been trailing by five, but the hope was short-lived as they would eventually lose by 15 runs. Phillips hit 18 homers in Triple-A this season while stealing 22 bases, but he also only hit .240. His defense is truly his calling card, but KC has shown that they're willing to accept a low batting average if a player provides good defense and puts up other counting numbers. The 25-year-old could put some pressure on the roster next season.
