Brad Keller Loses In Pitcher's Duel
6 years agoKansas City Royals starting pitcher Brad Keller took on one of the best on Wednesday as he battled it out against Cleveland's Corey Kluber. In the long run, Kluber won the duel, but Keller held his own quite well. Keller finished seven innings while only allowing one earned run, but a pair of unearned ones ended up being the difference. A pair of miscues by Alcides Escobar and Hunter Dozier allowed runs in the fifth and eighth innings to score that shouldn't have, and Keller was saddled with his sixth loss of the season. Keller has been a surprise during his rookie season as he's a low-strikeout/high-walk guy who is escaping danger like it's no big deal. Keller threw his fastball over 80% of the time in this game, and on the season, he's thrown it at a higher clip than all but three other starting pitchers, Lance Lynn (since retired), J.A. Happ, and Bartolo Colon. It doesn't seem like Keller's success can continue, but with fantasy teams locked into the playoffs at the moment, truly desperate owners can always roll their dice.
