Austin Ekeler Struggles In Lead Role
6 years agoLos Angeles Chargers running back Austin Ekeler got the nod after normal starter Melvin Gordon couldn't go against the Titans on Sunday, but he wasn't able to get much done. Ekeler carried the ball 12 times for 42 yards and hauled in five passes for 26 yards with no scores. Though he's usually electrifying, Ekeler looked like he was out of his comfort zone working in the lead role, and the team quickly moved on to more passing instead of letting him grind his way to a big play. With the bye coming this week, Gordon is expected back by the team's next game, and that should free Ekeler up to return to the complementary role where he excels.
