On the eve of Thursday's trade deadline, the Houston Astros are showing interest in Minnesota Twins shortstop Carlos Correa, St. Louis Cardinals third baseman Nolan Arenado, and Arizona Diamondbacks third baseman Eugenio Suarez, Bob Nightengale of USA Today reports. The most interesting possibility here may be Correa, who began his career in Houston and flourished as a member of the team. Correa, the No. 1 overall pick in the 2012 draft, debuted with the Astros in 2015. He played with the club through 2021 and took home Rookie of the Year honors, made two All-Star teams, and won a World Series in their uniform before signing with the Twins in free agency. He's now in the fourth season of a six-year, $200 million contract, which looks pricey considering his output in 2025. Correa has batted a pedestrian .267/.319/.386 with seven homers, 31 RBI, and 40 runs scored in his age-30 campaign, and he hasn't gone yard in any of his 20 games this month. Correa has a full no-trade clause, but he still lives in Houston in the offseason and would waive it to return there, according to Nightengale. With that said, the Astros do have an established shortstop in Jeremy Pena (ribs), who should return from the 10-day injured list soon after missing over a month with a small rib fracture. Correa and Pena have exclusively played short in the majors, so the Astros would have to find a way to make that work. It seems likely that Correa would take over at third with Isaac Paredes (hamstring) out for the foreseeable future with a hamstring injury.--Connor Byrne
