Andrew McCutchen Remains Solid Pick Heading Into 2018
7 years agoAfter a dismal 2016 campaign, former National League MVP Andrew McCutchen showed he wasn't done yet by bouncing back in 2017. After a career-low wRC of 105 in 2016, McCutchen bounced back to improve to a 122 wRC in 2017. The outfielder also improved his strikeout rate from 21.2% to 17.8% while improving his walk rate by one percent. He did slow down in the second-half but finished the season with a .279 batting average, 28 home runs, 88 RBI, 94 runs and even chipped in with 11 stolen bases. The outfielder was dealt to the Giants this offseason and is projected to hit ahead of Buster Posey, Evan Longoria and Brandon Belt. There should be plenty of opportunities for the runs to stay around last years total, however his power numbers are likely to go down at AT&T Park.Projected to leadoff, McCutchen's RBI may also go down. Regardless, McCutchen is no longer the top pick he once was, but should be serviceable and doesn't make a bad third outfield option. He should be available to snag in the seventh or eigth round of most drafts.
