Alexis Diaz Earns 16th Save Of Season Tuesday
6 months agoCincinnati Reds closer Alexis Diaz picked up his 16th save of the season in Tuesday's 2-1 win over the Pirates. Diaz came in to pitch the bottom of the ninth inning up by one and shut the door with a 1-2-3 inning, including a strikeout. The 27-year-old has converted all but two save opportunities this season but has not provided the value fantasy managers were expecting. His 5.27 ERA is much higher than his career 2.97 mark, his strikeouts have dropped to a 9.22 K/9 rate, and his walk issues have gotten even worse with a 6.26 BB/9 rate. Diaz appears to have strong job security and has been a solid fantasy option each of his first two seasons, so fantasy managers are likely best suited to wait it out with him for now.
