In a surprise move, the Carolina Hurricanes gave up on their presumed goaltender of the future by trading Alex Nedeljkovic to the Detroit Red Wings on Thursday. The 25-year-old netminder saw a lot of action in the second half of the 2020-21 season for the Hurricanes and also started nine games in the playoffs where he posted a .920 save percentage and 2.17 GAA. Nedeljkovic was even stronger during the regular season and posted a .932 save percentage and 1.90 GAA in 23 games. He finished third in the Calder Trophy race. In return, the Hurricanes received very little in backup goalie Jonathan Bernier, a pending unrestricted free agent, and a third-round draft pick.--Marc Hulet - RotoBaller
