5 months agoHendrick Motorsports driver Alex Bowman claimed a dramatic victory in Sunday's Grant Park 165 at the Chicago Street Course. Starting from the eighth position, Bowman quickly displayed that he had one of the better cars in the field. The No. 48 Hendrick Motorsports driver ended the first stage in the sixth position and scored stage points. In the second stage, despite a rain delay and multiple cautions for incidents in wet conditions, Bowman remained in the Top 10. At the end of the second stage, Bowman kept his wet weather tires while others went to pit for dry tires, finishing the second stage in the second position. Bowman passed Joey Hand for the lead in the final stage and never looked back. Despite being chased down by Tyler Reddick, Bowman held on as the race got called for darkness on lap 58 to snap an 80-race winless streak and punch his ticket to the 2024 playoffs. This race is Bowman's first victory on a road or street course of his Cup career after he finished last in last year's event. As the Cup Series heads to Pocono next, Bowman is a driver to watch as a former winner at the site with four finishes of 11th or better in the last five Cup events there.
