New York Mets first baseman Adrian Gonzalez has done a whole lot of nothing this season, but on Monday night against the Cincinnati Reds he came through with a whole lot of something instead. Gonzalez finished 3-for-4 with two home runs, three runs scored and two RBI on the evening, giving him five jacks on the year. Gonzalez has a history of crushing Reds starting pitcher Homer Bailey, and his sixth-inning shot off Jackson Stephens added more emphasis to his night. We wouldn’t recommend treating this as the start of any sort of resurgence for Gonzalez. For the most part this season, all he’s done is confirm everyone’s belief that he doesn’t have much left in the tank after a rough 2017. If he keeps this going, that will be a different story, but we aren’t hopeful of that.--John Smith
