RotoBaller PGA Expert Roundtable

Corales Puntacana Championship

The Expert Roundtable article is an attempt to get you inside the minds of our PGA DFS staff for every tournament.

Our four top golf writers - Joe Nicely, Spencer Aguiar, Josh Bennett, and Tommy Bell - will answer the same set of questions each week to give you an idea of how they are viewing the PGA DFS slate. Let's tee it up!

Who is your favorite DFS value play?

  • Joe Nicely: Chris Baker ($7,500)
  • Spencer Aguiar: Keith Mitchell & Will Gordon ($7,600)
  • Josh Bennett: Will Gordon ($7,600)
  • Tommy Bell: Keith Mitchell ($7,600)

Who is your favorite DFS “high priced” play?

  • Joe Nicely: Will Zalatoris ($10,900) & Sam Burns ($10,100)
  • Spencer Aguiar: Sam Burns ($10,100)
  • Josh Bennett: Sam Burns  ($10,100)
  • Tommy Bell: Sepp Straka ($9,300)

Who is your top GPP play?

  • Joe Nicely: Denny McCarthy ($9,600) & Thomas Detry ($9,400)
  • Spencer Aguiar: Patrick Rodgers ($8,000)
  • Josh Bennett: Mattias Schwab ($8,800)
  • Tommy Bell: Luke List ($8,700)

Who is your top Cash-Game play?

  • Joe Nicely: Kristoffer Ventura ($9,200)
  • Spencer Aguiar: Denny McCarthy ($9,600)
  • Josh Bennett: Denny McCarthy  ($9,600)
  • Tommy Bell: Pat Perez ($9,100)

Which popular golfer will you be “fading”?

  • Joe Nicely: Corey Conners ($10,600)
  • Spencer Aguiar: Corey Conners ($10,600) & Henrik Stenson ($9,500)
  • Josh Bennett: Pat Perez ($9,100)
  • Tommy Bell: Will Zalatoris  ($10,900)

What stands out as the most important stat for this golf course?

  • Joe Nicely: Birdie or Better %, Par-5 Scoring, Putting
  • Spencer Aguiar: Par-5 Birdie or Better %
  • Josh Bennett: Birdie or Better Conversion
  • Tommy Bell: SG: Approach, Par-5 Scoring

Who is your favorite DFS “dart throw”?

  • Joe Nicely: Will Gordon ($7,600), JJ Spaun ($7,000), & Akshay Bhatia ($6,900)
  • Spencer Aguiar: Hudson Swafford ($6,700), Sean O’Hair ($6,500), Michael Gligic ($6,500)
  • Josh Bennett: Dom Bozelli ($6,200)
  • Tommy Bell: JJ Spaun ($7,000)

What is your favorite bet of the week? (Any type)

  • Joe Nicely: Kristoffer Ventura  (33/1) & Denny McCarthy (33/1)
  • Spencer Aguiar: Denny McCarthy (-120) over Henrik Stenson
  • Josh Bennett:  Denny McCarthy (33/1)
  • Tommy Bell: Sepp Straka (35/1)

Make a “bold prediction” for this week:

  • Joe Nicely: The winner will be a first-time winner on the PGA Tour
  • Spencer Aguiar: Patrick Rodgers wins his first PGA Tour event
  • Josh Bennett: Dom Bozzelli finishes in the top 10
  • Tommy Bell: Sepp Straka gets RED hot with the putter over the weekend and wins by 4 strokes

Who is your favorite overall DFS golfer and why?

  • Joe Nicely: Sam Burns ($10,100) - He's a proven talent that been in good form as of late. His game should fit this layout perfectly.
  • Spencer Aguiar: There are a lot of names that I like this week. Patrick Rodgers ($8,000), Kristoffer Ventura ($9,200), Denny McCarthy ($9,600) or Luke List in GPPs ($8,700) will probably be the four that I find myself playing in a ton of lineups. Hard for me to just choose one.
  • Josh Bennett: Denny McCarthy (9,600) - He can roll in birdies better than most of the field and you can still play him with another top priced guy if you want. Great two year history and has been playing well
  • Tommy Bell: Sepp Straka ($9,300) - I am taking a big stance on Straka this week. I’ve liked him at easier courses that don’t pose huge risks all week, and we get one of those here. I think he’ll be able to be great off the tee, and his putting has been rock solid of late. A perfect field for him to come out on top.

What is your optimal DFS lineup building strategy?

  • Joe Nicely: Great week to embrace the volatility! Stars & Scrubs
  • Spencer Aguiar: More balanced than usual. Won’t be starting lineups above Sam Burns or Adam Long.
  • Josh Bennett: Balanced
  • Tommy Bell: Very balanced seeing as how I love a $9,300 guy at the top and Spaun is my dart throw at $7k

Who is your pick to win the tournament?

  • Joe Nicely: Sam Burns (with a strong showing from Will Zalatoris)
  • Spencer Aguiar: I flipped a coin to decide between Patrick Rodgers and Kristoffer Ventura. The coin likes Ventura, so we are rolling with that.
  • Josh Bennett: Denny McCarthy
  • Tommy Bell: Sepp Straka
