PGA DFS DraftKings Pivots: Sleepers and Value Picks - Travelers Championship

Welcome back, RotoBallers, to my PGA DFS Pivots for DraftKings! This week, the PGA event is The Travelers Championship.

The tour returns to Cromwell, Connecticut for the 2022 edition of The Travelers Championship. The field is strong, highlighted by world number 1 Scottie Scheffler. Justin Thomas withdrew Wednesday citing a back injury.

With all the talent at the top of the board, we may need to look at some low-salary options that can free some space for our lineups.

 

Travelers Championship - DFS Lineup Pivots 

Jordan Spieth ($9,900)

Jordan Spieth is currently projected to be under-owned compared to others priced around him. Spieth has 14 measured rounds at TPC River Highlands, and he ranks sixth in the field in DraftKings points. Spieth had a modest U.S. Open finishing in 37th place. However, he was battling a stomach bug earlier in the week. Before the U.S. Open, Spieth gained strokes tee-to-green in five straight events. Finally, with the majority of approach shots coming from 150-175 yards, Spieth ranks 14th in the field in proximity from that distance over the last 24 rounds. I expect the 2017 winner of this event to contend again this week.

Webb Simpson ($8,500)

Webb Simpson is currently projected to be in the single digits ownership-wise. Simpson had a difficult U.S. Open where he missed the cut. Before his missed cut he had gained strokes on approach in four straight events. Simpson has 18 measured rounds and TPC River Highlands and ranks eighth in the field on approach and fifth tee-to-green. Simpson’s record on this course and his low ownership make him an attractive GPP play.

Marc Leishman ($8,400)

Course history alone makes Marc Leishman an attractive to play. He won this event in 2012 and has 38 measured rounds at this course. At TPC River Highlands, Leishman ranks fourth tee-to-green, sixth ball striking, fourth on approach and 10th in DraftKings points. While his current form is not ideal it is hard to look past his success here. Monitor his ownership. If he begins to trend toward 15%+ it may be worth looking elsewhere based on his form. However, anything less than 13% on Leishman could present value.

Jhonattan Vegas ($7,500)

Jhonattan Vegas best finish at this was a 24th-place in 2020. However, in Vegas’s measured rounds at this course, he ranks 12th off-the-tee and 31st tee-to-green. Vegas is arriving in good form. In his last start at the Canadian Open he gained 6.5 strokes on approach. Over the last 24 rounds, he ranks fifth in proximity from the crucial range of 150-175 yards. Not be outdone, he also ranks 15th in the field in ball striking. He is currently projected to be in the low single digits ownership-wise and has a very reasonable salary. Vegas is an excellent play this week.

Aaron Rai ($7,400)

Accurate off-the-tee, Aaron Rai also excelled on approach in his last start. At The Canadian Open, Rai gained 7.2 strokes on approach. That helped in gaining 10.7 strokes tee-to-green that week. If Rai didn’t lose strokes putting, he would have finished better than the respectable 13th he recorded. The start before he gained 8.2 strokes putting. Rai is very low-owned and reasonably priced.
