PGA DFS DraftKings Pivots: Sleepers and Value Picks - PGA Championship

Rob Giltner breaks down some DraftKings DFS pivots, value plays, and sleepers for the 2022 The PGA Championship. Daily fantasy golf advice on under-owned golfers and who to avoid for your lineups.

Welcome back, RotoBallers, to my PGA DFS Pivots for DraftKings! This week, the PGA event is The PGA Championship.

The 2022 edition of the PGA Championship will be played at Southern Hills in Oklahoma. Golfers should expect tough conditions and high winds this week. This will likely make scoring difficult and will put an emphasis on saving par.

Major championships can be difficult weeks for DFS players. With all the talent in the field, it can be difficult to make lineups and player pools. We also have a variable of wind and a possibility of a tee time advantage. Weather is very difficult to predict. It could play out to what the forecast expects. However, it could lead to a similar situation to The Players Championship. At The Players Championship, the understood tee time advantage did not play out and fantasy players who stacked the opposite wave made a lot of money. If you are stacking an AM/PM tee time this week, it could also be advantageous to make PM/AM stacks as well.

PGA Championship - DFS Lineup Pivots

Viktor Hovland ($9,900) - Viktor Hovland had a strong start to the new season. He won at Mayakoba and recorded two straight top-five place finishes in the early spring. Hovland’s game declined some as it got closer to April and finished in a disappointing 27th place at The Masters. Hovland Is still one of the best ball strikers on tour. Over his last 24 rounds, he ranks fourth in ball striking, and second in strokes gained approach. There is a narrative brewing that around the green play will be important this week. This is likely the case, but how much we should weight that metric is up for debate. Getting one of the best ball strikers on tour, who is familiar with the course, under 10% owned may just be too lucrative to pass up.

Will Zalatoris ($8,900) - Never thought I’d be able to write up Will Zalatoris as a pivot option. Currently projected near 10% owned, Zalatoris burned many last week. He missed the cut at The Byron Nelson at high ownership. Some recency bias could be coming into play. While he did MC, he was still able to gain three strokes on approach and 3.5 strokes tee-to-green. Over the last 24 rounds, he ranks second in ball striking and first in strokes gained approach. If Zalatoris remains near 10% is a great play.

Tiger Woods ($8,200) - Another surprise as a pivot play is Tiger Woods. Woods is projected under 10% owned. He has a lot of question marks about his health and form. I don’t buy into many course comparisons this week. However, I can believe that around the greens at Southern Hills could be similar to Augusta National. With the wind, Southern Hills should play difficult. In GPPs I like the idea of having a few shares of Woods he can grind and scramble his way around.

Tyrell Hatton ($8,100) - Tyrell Hatton has now gained strokes putting in nine straight events. The 30-year-old Englishmen has underperformed this year for how well he has played. He has gained strokes on approach in four out of his last five events. Over the last 24 rounds, Hatton ranks third in the field in strokes gained short-game. At one point last year, he gained strokes around the green in nine straight events.

Russel Henley ($7,200) - Russel Henley is currently projected to be in the single digits ownership wise. While he may be on the wrong side off the tee time waves, I believe he could play well this weekend. Over his last 24 rounds, he ranks fifth in strokes gained approach. Another positive for Henley is that he ranks seventh in the field in strokes gained around the green. He is also in the top half of the field in strokes gained tee-to-green and ball-striking. His play outperforms his salary and current projected ownership.

Min Woo Lee ($6,700) - When Min Woo Lee begin playing events on the PGA Tour he brought some hype. He won last year’s Scottish Open, beating the likes of Justin Thomas and John Rahm. Lee went on to record multiple top-five place finishes on The DP World Tour last year. While he has struggled on the PGA Tour, he displayed good form finishing in 14th-place at The Masters in April. At low ownership and price, Lee could be a great GPP option.
