Rob Giltner breaks down some DraftKings DFS pivots, value plays, and sleepers for The 2022 3M Open. Daily fantasy golf advice on under-owned golfers and who to avoid for your lineups.
Welcome back, RotoBallers, to my PGA DFS Pivots for DraftKings! This week, the PGA event is The 3M Open.
Congratulations to Cam Smith on winning The Open. The PGA Tour arrives back in the states for The 3M Open. Those who played at St. Andrews will have to deal with the quick turnaround at jet lag.
With the field being below average, ownership will likely be very condensed. In large field GPPs, it gives us even more reason to be contrarian.
The 3M Open - DFS Lineup Pivots
Rickie Fowler ($7,700)
Rickie Fowler is not projected to garner much ownership. Fowler played very well in the first two rounds at The Scottish Open. While he struggled on Sunday, Fowler played specifically well off-the-tee and his ability to hit fairways. Fowler is also appealing in his proximity numbers.
I am weighing proximity from 175-200 and 100-125 yards slightly higher this week. Over the last 24 rounds, he ranks 5th and 14th in the field in those categories. Fowler is one of my favorite contrarian plays.
Cheng Tsung Pan ($7,500)
Similar to Davis, CT Pan has been striking the ball well. He has only lost strokes on approach once since February. He also had a stretch where he gained strokes tee-to-green in eight straight starts this year.
In his last start at The John Deere he gained 5.1 strokes on approach and 2.7 tee-to-green. At a reasonable salary and low ownership Pan makes for a great GPP play.

Danny Lee ($7,200)
Another golfer who is projected to be low-owned is Danny Lee. Lee ranks 14th In the field in strokes gained off-the-tee over the last 24 rounds. While he missed the cut in his last start at The U.S. Open, he showed sneaky form in the start prior.
He finished 10th at The Canadian Open. He gained 6.2 strokes on approach that week and 8.8 tee-to-green. Lee is a low-owned sleeper option.
Hayden Buckley ($7,100)
Hayden Buckley is one of my favorite GPP plays. If you just look at his recent results, nothing will blow you away. However, if we look closer we may see a golfer who is playing well. Buckley finished 63rd at The Barbasol in Kentucky. Buckley gained 4.3 strokes on approach and 7.4 tee-to-green. He lost an astounding 8.6 strokes on the green that week.
While Buckley is not a great putter, we cannot expect him to have that same performance this week. At The John Deere in the start prior, he gained 5.9 strokes tee-to-green and 1.3 on approach. Lastly, Buckley did flash some upside at The U.S. open where he recorded a top 15 place finish.
Satoshi Kodaira ($6,700)
Satoshi Kodaira is a trend play. He has improved all his ball striking stats in two straight starts. With trends, we hope that progression continues and he peaks this week. In his last start he gained 5.4 on approach and 6 strokes tee-to-green. He provides nice salary relief as well.
