Kevin Pillar (OF, SF) - Week 20 Waiver Wire Pickups

BALLER MOVE: Add in 12+ Team Leagues

OWNED IN: 28% of leagues

ANALYSIS: The Blue Jays got rid of Kevin Pillar earlier this season. Most fantasy owners don't consider him rosterable either. Shame on all of them. Yes, Pillar may not be your All-Star center fielder. Yes, Pillar is 30 and far from his peak. But how many players are in the league posting better-than-average numbers all across the major fantasy categories? And of those, how many of them are available in almost three out of four leagues!?

Pillar already has 13 HR (three shy of his career-best mark), could easily hit for around five more, and his 10 steals to-date are more than ok, with another projected four in store. He also has 57 R and 57 RBI this season and although he can't get on base on his eyes' merit alone (he's got a miserable 2.6% walk rate), he doesn't strike out that much holding a great 14.7 K% in 2019.

You just have to look at his August numbers to get an idea of what you can get from him through waivers: in 23 PA he has eight hits (two extra-base ones), has scored three runs and stolen two bases. He's averaging .364, slugging .500 and has an wRC+ of 137. Of batters with at least 150 PA all-season, he's the least owned one to have HR/R/RBI/SB numbers over the league-wide average production at each category. Can't ask for much more from someone you can pick up for free.
