Jordan Mason fantasy football start 'em, sit 'em picks for Week 1 (2025). Should you start or sit Jordan Mason for fantasy football lineups in Week 1?
BALLER MOVE: Start in 12+ team leagues
POSITIONAL VALUE: RB3/FLEX
ANALYSIS: The 26-year-old inked a two-year contract worth $10.5 million in the offseason with the Minnesota Vikings. Jordan Mason has spent his entire three-year NFL career in San Francisco. Through its first two seasons, Mason ran the ball just 41.5 times per season. However, in 2024, Mason was able to operate as the lead back for a majority of the season, with Christian McCaffrey sidelined.
From Weeks 1 through 7, Mason averaged 95.3 rushing yards per game and scored a strong 14.8 PPR points per game. While he eventually suffered an injury later in the season, Mason proved he was more than capable of taking on a lead role.
Throughout training camp this summer, the coaching staff has spoken quite highly of him and has described him as a key part of the offense and as a potential "Co-RB1" with veteran Aaron Jones Sr.
While fantasy managers should not expect Mason to be given a hefty workload in Week 1 immediately, there is potential that he sees his role grow over the course of the season. As a result, managers should view Mason as more of an RB3/flex option in 12+ team leagues this week, as his role is not truly defined.
While he may see double-digit carries given the praise he saw in training camp, Jones could also be given the lion's share of carries in the opening week. As a result, he projects to be a touchdown-dependent risky flex option in almost all formats facing the Chicago Bears.
