ANALYSIS: Milwaukee Brewers right-hander Joel Payamps remains in the mix for save opportunities with primary closer Devin Williams (back) sidelined for three months. Payamps is 1-for-2 in save chances with two holds while posting a 10.80 ERA, 1.20 WHIP, and a 3:0 K: BB across 3 1/3 innings in 2024. He started off the season tossing three straight scoreless innings until imploding in Wednesday's 7-3 loss to the Minnesota Twins. He was charged with loss and blown save after surrendering four runs in the seventh inning. It's worth noting that Payamps was pitching for the fourth time in five days.

Milwuakee's primary closer role is Abner Uribe's to lose. The 23-year-old has converted all three saves while posting a 3.00 ERA, 0.67 WHIP, and two strikeouts over three innings in 2024. Despite Wednesday's implosion, Payamps is still in the mix for saves but will primarily be used in a high-leverage role. Trevor Megill is also in the mix for saves but was just placed on the 7-day injured list due to a concussion.

Payamps is still widely available, as he is only rostered in 48% of Yahoo leagues. He owns an elite 33.3 K% and has yet to walk a batter this season. Payamps can help fantasy teams with strikeouts and ratios while picking some saves, making him worth a roster spot in 12-plus team leagues. Fantasy managers of Uribe should add Payamps as his handcuff and in leagues that count for the category saves and holds.
