Will Kyler Murray start for the Arizona Cardinals when he returns? Dan Fornek breaks down the Week 11 Kyler Murray return timeline and fantasy football outlook.
There was hope that 2025 would be the year that Kyler Murray finally took a solid step in Arizona’s offense. The veteran quarterback had a solid season in 2024 after an ACL tear, but still left many plays on the field.
Unfortunately, that has not been the case. Murray has continued to struggle with staying healthy. When he has been on the field, the veteran quarterback has continued to struggle to operate head coach Jonathan Gannon’s offense at a high level.
Will Kyler Murray be the Arizona Cardinals’ starter when healthy? When will he return to the field? Read below to find out.

Will Kyler Murray Start For The Cardinals When He Returns?
The Kyler Murray injury saga has taken numerous twists and turns over the last few weeks.
Murray suffered a foot injury in Week 5 in a loss to the Tennessee Titans. At the time, the injury didn’t seem like a big issue, considering the veteran quarterback was able to finish the game. The Cardinals expected Murray back quickly, with head coach Jonathan Gannon consistently telling reporters that Murray would be back under center once healthy.
However, that plan has changed. Murray’s injury has reportedly been slow to heal, but the real surprise is just how well the Cardinals' offense has performed with veteran quarterback Jacoby Brissett under center. In four games, Brissett is completing 60.9% of his passes for 1,118 yards, eight touchdowns, and one interception. The Cardinals are averaging 24.7 points per game with Brissett after averaging just 20.6 points with Murray under center.

Things took a strange turn after the Cardinals’ Week 9 win over the Dallas Cowboys. First, reports surfaced that doctors told Murray and the team that his injury had a four-to-eight-week timeline with an increased chance for re-injury if he returned too soon. That report also included that the veteran quarterback still did not look 100% healthy four weeks after he was injured.
Shortly after that, Gannon announced that Brissett would be the team’s starting quarterback in Week 10 regardless of Murray’s health. Then Murray was placed on injured reserve, sidelining him for a minimum of four weeks.

Murray is clearly limited, but at this point, it appears that Gannon has decided that the team’s best chance to win is to have a stable quarterback like Brissett under center. It does not appear that Murray will take the job back from Brissett unless he is injured or completely melts down under center. Even if those happen, we will not see Murray again until Week 14 at the earliest.
Kyler Murray Fantasy Football Outlook
At this exact moment, it is impossible to say that Kyler Murray has any fantasy value going forward. Not only is Murray unable to play until Week 14, which is the last week of the fantasy regular season for most, but even when he is healthy, there is no guarantee that he will take his job back from Jacoby Brissett.
For now, Murray is a player who can safely be dropped in all fantasy formats, given the lack of certainty about his injury and his status with the team. Fantasy managers will want to pay close attention, though, as the Cardinals have a matchup with the Cincinnati Bengals in Week 17, which, for most leagues, is the fantasy championship.
If Murray is trending towards being healthy and in the starting lineup at that point in the season, it will be hard to rank him outside the top quarterback options.
