Indianapolis Colts second-year quarterback Anthony Richardson is currently dealing with an oblique injury, which he suffered during the team's Week 4 game against the Steelers.
With Richardson sidelined, Joe Flacco has taken the reins of the offense and has looked good, but has he looked so good that the Colts are reconsidering who their starter is?
Is Anthony Richardson still the starter when he is healthy?
In 2023, the Browns were forced to sign Joe Flacco off the street to start for the team. He wound up winning the AP Comeback Player of the Year Award after going 4-1 down the stretch of the regular season as the Cleveland quarterback.
This offseason, Flacco signed with the Indianapolis Colts to serve as the backup to Anthony Richardson.
The @Browns never made Joe Flacco an offer to come back this year. Despite Flacco being the 2023 Comeback Player of the Year and leading Cleveland to the playoffs.
In his first start of the year on Sunday against the Jaguars, Flacco was 33-of-44 for 359 yards and three touchdowns. However, the defense let Flacco down as the Colts lost 27-24 to the previously winless Jags.
Flacco looked like he's still a capable NFL starting quarterback in the game, but will he start for the Colts once Richardson is healthy?
Flacco deserves to start somewhere, but the Colts have too much invested in the young Anthony Richardson to make a change at quarterback. Once Richardson is healthy, he'll be the team's starter.
Don't believe me? ESPN's Stephen Holder reported on Monday that Colts head coach Shane Steichen is committed to starting Richardson when healthy, saying of him that "he is our quarterback."
Deshaun Watson has played 17 games for the Cleveland Browns
He has never once thrown for a 300 yard game
Joe Flacco played 6 games for the Cleveland Browns
Richardson is still a bit raw as a prospect, but his arm strength and athleticism make him one of the league's most intriguing players at the position. While Flacco deserves a chance to play somewhere -- the Browns could probably use him right now -- he won't be Indianapolis's starting quarterback.
