Fantasy Baseball 1B/3B Waiver Wire Pickups for Week 25 (2024)

Happy Sunday, Rotoballers, and welcome back to another edition of first base and third base fantasy baseball waiver wire pickups for Week 25 — September 9 through September 15.

Waiver Wire Pickups for Shallow Leagues (30-50% rostered)

Connor Wong, C/1B, Boston Red Sox (42% rostered)

In his second full season with Boston, Connor Wong has finally played up to the part. The 28-year-old was one of the pieces included from the Dodgers in the Mookie Betts trade in 2020, and so far, he looks to be the best player of that deal for the Red Sox. Wong batted .250 and slugged .417 last week, with a home run, two RBI, and a walk.

While he's not yet in the 'best catchers in the game' conversation, he's posted respectable season totals, including a .281 average and .757 OPS, in addition to career-highs in home runs and RBI. The Sox have struggled to find consistency at the backstop position, so the club hopes Wong can fulfill that need for the foreseeable future.

Justin Turner, 1B/2B/3B, Seattle Mariners (41% rostered)

Acquired at the deadline from Toronto, veteran Justin Turner hasn't quite lived up to the expectations that Seattle had for him. However, the veteran swung the bat well in his last seven games, slashing .320/.400/.600 with a pair of home runs, four RBI, and three walks.

The M's have won three in a row and are still in the hunt for a playoff spot. Seattle hopes its trade-deadline acquisitions of Turner and Randy Arozarena can step up and help them squeak into the postseason as October looms.

Waiver Wire for Deeper Leagues (10-30% rostered)

Matt Vierling, 3B/OF, Detroit Tigers (26% rostered)

Coming off of an August where he batted .302 with a .818 OPS, Matt Vierling has remained solid at the plate as the calendar turned to September. He slashed .250/.276/.393 with seven hits, including a homer, RBI, walk, and a stolen base last week.

In 2024, Vierling has reached career highs in multiple categories, such as home runs and RBI. He's also helping the Tigers push for an American League wild-card spot. Detroit has climbed back into the playoff conversation, and at 72-71, it's 4.5 games out.

Seth Brown, 1B/OF, Oakland Athletics (19% rostered)

Another team that's begun to show some encouraging signs for its future is the Oakland A's, with slugger Seth Brown contributing to its recent offensive surge. The 32-year-0ld collected 10 hits last week, with a .476 batting average, two home runs, and seven RBI.

Since July 11, Brown has put up a .969 OPS and belted nine home runs while driving in 29 runs. He's also added three doubles, a triple, and 10 walks. Because Brown had such a poor first half, his scorching second half has largely flown under the radar, but perhaps his extra-inning heroics from Friday night can convince you to roster him.

Deeper Waiver Wire Options to Consider (Under 10%)

Ty France, 1B, Cincinnati Reds (9% rostered)

Perhaps all Ty France needed was a change of scenery to get it going at the dish. The former Seattle Mariner slashed .440/.500/.640 last week, with 11 hits, a home run, three RBI, three walks, and a stolen base.

In 33 games with Cincinnati, France has a .825 OPS and has hit half the number of home runs and doubles he hit while with Seattle in 2024 but in nearly 200 fewer at-bats. It's been mostly a disappointing season for the Reds, but maybe France's resurgence at the plate will factor him into their future plans.
