Hello RotoBaller PGA crew! It's great to be back with you guys and I appreciate you joining us here at RotoBaller for your PGA DFS research. This week we'll dig into the FanDuel PGA DFS slate for the fifth event of the season.
In this article, we'll discuss some of the standout PGA DFS plays available on FanDuel for the 2022 Mayakoba Classic. While it's impossible to hit on every player, we'll touch on some different plays across all price ranges, breaking the groups down into "High", "Mid", and "Low" price options that are worth considering.

FanDuel Strategy Nuances (PGA DFS)
Before we dive into the FanDuel plays for this week, we are going to be comparing the prices of golfers on the FD slate to that of the DraftKings slate, in order to figure out some value for the respective golfers. We get an extra $10,000 ($60,000 salary limit in FanDuel) to spend on the same six guys, so there is opportunity to build some really optimal lineups if we find the right guys. The average increase per player should be $1,666.67 ($10,000 / 6), but this week there is a golfer who only saw a $100 increase in salary and has made 5 of his last 6 cuts.

High-Priced FanDuel DFS Plays
Below is the difference in salary between the two DFS platforms
Scottie Scheffler ($12,000)
As the highest priced golfer in the field, Scottie Scheffler only sees a $500 increase in salary from DraftKings (second smallest in field). He is coming off a very impressive weekend at the Mayakoba Classic, where he rattled off a 62 on Sunday, hitting 16 greens and almost breaking the course record. His ball striking has always been elite and now he seemingly has figured out his putter (at least over the last few rounds). Scheffler is also very good on difficult courses and now he heads to a course where he should be extremely comfortable and will be looking to get his first win of the season in his home state of Texas.
Sam Burns ($11,800)
As the only golfer in the field to have finished inside the top-10 twice in the two times they have played here, Sam Burns will be looking to make that a third consecutive top-10 in Texas. He is built to boom drives and make clutch putts at a course that he seems to be very comfortable at. His price is very close to Scheffler's and I would lean Scheffler if forced to choose between the two, especially at this price. But, if Scheffler is not for you this week, Burns is the second-best player in the field and offers arguably as much upside as Scheffler, with a floor that may be what is giving us a slightly cheaper price tag.
Denny McCarthy ($10,100)
Already one of the lesser owned DraftKings plays, Denny gets slapped with a $1,600 increase in salary on the FD slate and that should take his ownership down even further. He has finished T11 and T38 at this course before and finished T6 only two starts ago. He is a grinder who has an exceptional short game as well as accuracy off the tee. The sky is the limit for Denny if he can find some ball striking form in Texas.

Mid-Priced FanDuel DFS Plays
Mid-priced salary differences. Notice how much more red we see in that far right column in this range versus the high-priced range. Bare that in mind when deciding which players to play on either platform.
Mackenzie Hughes ($9,800)
Mackenzie Hughes has not finished worse than T25 in his three starts this season, including a win at the Sanderson Farms. His course history at Memorial Park Golf Club includes a T7 and T29. He has an exquisite short game and seems to have added a bunch of length off the tee. If he can improve on the measly +0.35 total strokes he has gained off the tee in his eight rounds here, the rest of his game is looking he can be an absolute contender in his fourth start of the season. He does have one of the biggest increases in salary, but I think his game is built to succeed at difficult courses like this, as he has shown us countless times.
Andrew Putnam ($9,700)
Last week we wrote, "Andrew Putnam has one of the smallest increases in salary but has seen one of the biggest increases in performance early in the 2023 season. In his five starts he has finished T29, T2, T12, T30, and T43, with his three best finishes being his three most recent starts...". Add another T48 to the list of made cut finishes. Putnam somehow is till not getting respected by FanDuel pricing, and we really like him at a course where you may require a touch of a surgeon around the greens. Dr. Andrew Putnam has one of the sharpest short games in the field and may see a raise from FanDuel if he plays how we expect him to this week.
Justin Lower ($9,000)
Hopefully lower can sneak under the radar this week after his worst performance of the year last week, finishing T56 in Mayakoba. Lower has made all five cuts this season and finished T4, T45, T8, T20 and T56. He has two top-10 finishes and provides a short-term track record boasting the ability to make cuts at $9,000 in a top-heavy field. In the 12 rounds with strokes gained data this season, he has averaged a stroke on and around the greens, while his approach play and driving stats have also been gainers. He plays hard courses well, which is exactly what he will face this week.
Low-Priced FanDuel DFS Players
James Hahn ($7,600)
James Hahn is one of the riskier plays we will have in our player pool, as his short game has imploded many glorious rounds before. However, at this price, we love how good of a ball striker we can roster at a course that requires either exceptional ball striking or short game. The more greens you hit, the less you need to chip, which is why we like Hahn here. Hahn is gaining almost +1.7 strokes per round ball striking and is $600 more than minimum salary. He is an ideal risk vs reward play at a very affordable price.
Robby Shelton ($7,400)
This is the most egregious price discrepancy on the slate. Robby Shelton is only $100 more on FanDuel than he is on DraftKings and has finished inside the top 26 in four of his six starts this season. He missed his first cut on the number at the Mayakoba classic and now heads to a golf course where he can rely on his well-rounded golf game to potentially add another top-30 to his already impressive 2023 PGA Tour resume. The value at this price point opens up the rest of the slate in drastic fashion, with a whopping $10,520 per player remaining if you start your lineup with somebody who has made 83% of their cuts this season.
