FanDuel MLB DFS Lineup Picks (7/28/20): Daily Fantasy Baseball Advice

Troy Klauder highlights the top FanDuel MLB DFS lineup picks for 7/28/20, and a couple of sleepers to consider while building daily rosters.

We've got another exciting main slate on FanDuel which starts at 6:40 PM eastern, which spans 11 games. I am excited for my first MLB DFS column of the season and with few decent pitching options it looks like it could be another high scoring slate for offenses.

Tonight's Marlins-Orioles matchup is cancelled again after multiple Miami players have tested positive. If you're playing the early slate, the Yankees-Phillies matchup has also been canceled out of caution. Make sure that you aren't including any players from these games.

In this article, I'll be providing you with my daily fantasy baseball lineup picks for the FanDuel main slate on 7/28/2020. Be sure to also check out all the MLB player news and projected and confirmed daily MLB lineups for each DFS slate. You can also read more DFS advice and lineup picks for sites like DraftKings, and other sports too.

FanDuel DFS Pitchers

Kyle Gibson - ARI @ TEX ($8,200)

Tonight is an extremely weak pitching slate, as most teams are using their fourth or fifth starter. Other than Walker Buehler, who is facing a tough matchup in the Astros, there are no aces on the mound tonight. If you wan't to build a lineup around a strong pitcher, Kyle Gibson is likely your best bet. Gibson had a rough 2019, but there are reasons to expect improvement: his 4.26 FIP was not nearly as bad as his ERA would suggest, and Gibson is also in a much more friendly park - Texas's new stadium should play much more neutral than the hitter's park in Minnesota. His opponent, the Diamondbacks, had just a .308 wOBA versus righties last year so they're still a lineup to target despite moderately upgrading this offseason.

Patrick Sandoval - LAA v. SEA ($5,600)

Sandoval is a fantastic value play as the second-cheapest starter on the slate against the Mariners. Seattle clearly has one of the weakest lineups in baseball, and their 24.8% K-rate against lefties was sixth-highest last year. Sandoval flashed strikeout upside in his big league stint last season with a 24.9% strikeout-rate. Even if he doesn't go deep into this start, Sandoval can easily score you enough points with strikeouts to justify him at this price.

FanDuel DFS Infielders

Paul Goldschmidt - 1B,  STL @ MIN ($3,700)

Goldy is off to a hot start, batting .417 with a home run through three games. He should continue this pace with a series in Minnesota, which is a hitter's park as mentioned earlier. Goldschmidt is in a great spot to rack up both runs and RBI batting third for the Cardinals against Homer Bailey, who had a 4.57 ERA last year.

Keston Hiura - 2B, MIL @ PIT ($3,300)

Hiura is the ideal type of player to target in GPP contests, as his 96th percentile hard-hit rate in 2019 shows his upside. Hiura and the Brewers should crush Derek Holland tonight, who had a 6.08 ERA last season.

Josh Donaldson - 3B, MIN vs STL ($3,000)

While Donaldson hasn't gotten things going yet this season, that's no reason to avoid him at this price. Donaldson posted a 132 wRC+ with 37 homers last season, so there's no question that he's still an elite hitter. Don't get scared off by a three game sample, as you'll regret missing out on Donaldson while he's this cheap.

Amed Rosario - SS, NYM @ BOS ($2,700)

Rosario feasted on left-handed pitching in 2019, batting .311 with an .887 OPS. Last night he led off against a lefty so he should do the same tonight against Matt Hall. Hall is a career minor-leaguer who has just 31 1/3 major league innings pitched with a 9.48 ERA. The Mets are a great stack option tonight, and Rosario is a no-brainer to include atop the lineup.

FanDuel DFS Outfielders

Andrew Benintendi - OF, BOS vs. NYM ($2,500)

It's almost impossible to find a leadoff hitter for this cheap, much less one at the top of a powerful lineup like the Red Sox. Benintendi is in line to score lots of runs in an extreme hitter's park in Fenway. Batting leadoff can also provide him with more plate appearances than most players, which gives him more opportunities to score fantasy points.

Kyle Schwarber - OF, CHC at CIN ($3,100)

Schwarber is a beast against right-handers, as he posted a .900 OPS last year against them. Cincinnati is a tremendous park for power hitters, while Reds starter Tyler Mahle had a 1.74 HR/9 last year. This all comes together for a great spot for Schwarber, who can do some damage out of the Cubs cleanup spot.

Mike Trout - OF, LAA vs. SEA ($4,500)

It almost feels silly to recommend Trout. But tonight is a slate where he should be easily affordable, since starting pitching is so cheap and there are many values outlined above. Trout faces a starter in Justus Sheffield who has just 38 2/3 innings in the majors, so you don't need to overthink this one.
