Mavericks forward/center Dorian Finney-Smith is a worthy consideration as a fantasy basketball waiver wire pickup heading into Week 2 of the NBA season.
BALLER MOVE: Add in 12-Team Leagues
ROSTERED IN: 9% of leagues
ANALYSIS: The Mavs are a certain Luka Doncic's team. Some folks would argue Kristaps Porzingis also carries some of the weight of the team success on his shoulders, and they might be right, but KP is sadly injured and will be out for a while. With the PF/C out at least until the end of January, the returning Dwight Powell and Dorian Finney-Smith will be tasked with manning the paint for Dallas.
DFS started the Mavs season-opener at the PF spot and played a very palatable 35 minutes against Phoenix, dropping 11 points on the Suns while grabbing 8 boards and dishing out 3 dimes to go with 2 steals on the day. Finney could have put up better numbers, sure, but Finney is also rostered in fewer than 10% of Yahoo leagues and it doesn't get much better than a stuffed 11-8-3-2 line for that price.
Dorian should have better nights down the road. He shot 36.4 percent from the floor in his season debut, but he's a career 42.6% player in that department while also averaging a 51.5 eFG%. Last year, DFS already started 68 of his total 71 games, so he will keep that role at least until both Powell and KP are available. The minutes and opportunities will be there and with that high number of chances to rack up fantasy points, odds are he provides his fantasy GMs plenty of good news weekly.
