De'Anthony Melton is worth considering as a fantasy basketball waiver wire pickup heading into Week 17 of the 2022-23 NBA season.
BALLER MOVE: Add in 14+ Team Leagues
ROSTERED IN: 36% of leagues
ANALYSIS: De'Anthony Melton keeps starting games for the Sixers, keeps putting up numbers, and keeps getting wildly under-rostered percentages for someone contributing as much as he does all across the stat sheet.
Barring a two-game skid in which Melton didn't start by mid-January, the guard-wing tweener has logged 34 starts in his last 36 matches going all the way back to November 18, more than two months ago, James Harden available or not.
Melton has found a place in the Sixers rotation and he's just keeping it ROS barring a tectonic shift via trade, which doesn't seem to be the case this season in Philly after they pulled off the Harden heist last year. Melton is playing low but very efficient minutes these days, staying on the court for around 25 MPG (last six games; two weeks) but posting averages of 0.95 PF/min and 25 FPPG.
While Melton had his worst game in a good while last Wednesday (6.3 FP in 20 MP against Orlando), he's been good outside of that forgettable matchup in the last two weeks of play. He's hit at least 8+ PTS in all of the other five games he's played in that span, hitting 13+ in four of those.
It's also been eight games in a row through Friday for him scoring at least 1+ 3PM every game. For those looking for help in the steals/blocks categories, Melton is stealing 1.9 SPG this season to go with 0.5+ BPG through Friday. Only OG Anunoby has more steals and blocks per game than Melton in the 2022/23 campaign.
