Daily Fantasy Golf DraftKings Picks (PGA DFS): Shriners Open

DraftKings PGA DFS lineup picks daily fantasy golf

Spencer breaks down the DraftKings PGA slate with his Shriners Open DFS lineup picks, under-owned value plays, and golfers to avoid for daily fantasy lineups.

Welcome back, RotoBallers! As always, please check out my weekly spreadsheet in the link below to get started on your research for the Shriners Open. You will be able to weigh out the categories however you see fit once you make a copy, and I always love hearing the success you have found while using the model. Thanks again for all the support, and let's have a successful week!

If you have any questions about a particular player from a PGA DFS or PGA betting perspective, please feel free to contact Spencer on Twitter @Teeoffsports.

Many golfers barely miss out on being mentioned here by fractions of a percent, and I am more than happy to discuss my feelings or stance on anyone that may have caught your eye. Like always, the purpose of this piece is to help you put together your optimal daily fantasy golf lineups for DraftKings, whether that be from a GPP perspective or a cash-game mentality. TPC Summerlin

7,251 Yards - Par 71 - Greens: Bentgrass

Bobby Weed masterminded the property on the rugged desert terrain in 1991, with Fuzzy Zoeller serving as his consultant. The course itself meanders through arroyos and canyons, featuring lush Bentgrass greens to go along with friendly Bermuda rough.

I've noted before that I don't play a ton of golf, but TPC Summerlin is a venue that I have teed it up at in the past. Only 15 minutes away from my home, the property is one of the most visually aesthetic in the city, but for what it brings in looks, you lose some of the difficulty along the way. One hundred and two bunkers were redone in 2018 to try and add a little more challenge, but it hasn't appeared to do much with the average winning score coming in at 22-under par during that time frame.

In my opinion, the only real defense for the course itself would be wind, but it appears unlikely we get any substantial amount of it this week to change the feel of the tournament. We will see if that holds accurate, but it has been an extremely subdued last few weeks in Las Vegas. The three par-fives and two short par-fours are the most accessible holes, and four of these are included during the final six-hole stretch. There is a challenging par-three 17th, but that will be the only real test for the field coming home. Overall, golfers that can demonstrate ball-striking ability and strategy off the tee should exploit TPC Summerlin in an ideal situation, and it is not as if we should be anticipating anything that will be too grueling for the field.

Note: For an exclusive in-depth look at this week's course, check out RotoBaller's Premium Course Breakdown written by Josh Bennett.

Fantasy Golf Lineup Picks for DraftKings (PGA DFS)

We have tons of great weekly PGA articles, DFS analysis, tools and DFS advice. Be sure to read our other fantastic articles regarding this week's event.

High-Priced DraftKings DFS Players

There are six players this week priced above $10,000:

  • Safest Play: Webb Simpson ($10,200) - Webb Simpson is currently the third-highest owned golfer on the board, but there are just certain tracks where he is almost unfadeable. The Wyndham Championship is the more pronounced version of that, but even here, he has recorded four straight top-20 results. I think he is one of the must-have cash options.
  • Most Upside: Viktor Hovland ($10,600) - Viktor Hovland seems to be sitting on a significant result, as he has averaged 3.79 shots with his irons over his last eight and 2.65 OTT in his previous 16. Hovland has also gained off the tee in 19 of his past 21 and ranks sixth in total driving. Another win is coming soon, and it is not out of the equation that it happens in Vegas.
  • Favorite GPP Play:V iktor Hovland ($10,600)
  • Fade: Sam Burns ($10,900) - If distance gets negated at TPC Summerlin, Burns' price tag has to be too high.
  • Most Likely Winner: Viktor Hovland ($10,600)

Mid-Priced DraftKings DFS Players

$9,000 Range

  • Safest Play: Louis Oosthuizen ($9,900) - Louis Oosthuizen should have playability across the board because of his 16 cuts in a row. Oosthuizen ranks second on bentgrass greens and first in strokes gained total over his last 24 rounds. There is a little trepidation about his ability to make birdies in bunches, but he is the most significant ownership outlier on my model of anyone priced above $7,500. That alone makes him worth another look in GPP contests also.
  • Most Upside: Scottie Scheffler ($9,700) - Scottie Scheffler is a GPP-only play after finishing outside of the top-70 in his two tries here, but I think that statistic is an aberrational outlier for a few reasons. Scheffler missed the cut last year after taking three weeks off because of COVID-19, and his 74th place finish in 2019 came after he entered Saturday at eight-under par and within striking distance of the leaders. The American should be riding high because of his high-end Ryder Cup performance, and he has gained strokes tee to green in his last 16 starts.
  • Favorite GPP Play: Scottie Scheffler ($9,700)
  • Fade: Kevin Na ($9,100) - Not a traditional fade, but there is more volatility here than meets the eye.
  • Most Likely Winner: Scottie Scheffler ($9,700)

$8,000 Range

  • Safest Play: Cameron Tringale ($8,500)
  • Most Upside: Joaquin Niemann ($8,300)
  • Favorite GPP Play: Patrick Reed ($8,600)
  • Fade: Jason Kokrak ($8,700)
  • Most Likely Winner: Paul Casey ($8,900)

Low-Priced DraftKings DFS Players To Consider ($7,000)

  • Safest Play: Russell Henley ($7,900)
  • Most Upside: Brian Harman ($7,600)
  • Favorite GPP Play: Ian Poulter ($7,000)
  • Fade: Henrik Norlander ($7,000)
  • Most Likely Winner: Russell Henley ($7,900)

Sub-$6,000 Options To Consider

Here are a few of my preferred $6,000 shots:

Adam Hadwin ($6,800), Adam Schenk ($6,800), Nick Taylor ($6,300), William McGirt ($6,100), Kyle Stanley ($6,100), Hank Lebioda ($6,300), Chesson Hadley ($6,500)
