Chris Godwin fantasy football start 'em, sit 'em picks for Week 1 (2024). Should you start or sit Chris Godwin for fantasy football lineups?
BALLER MOVE: Start in 10+ team leagues
POSITIONAL VALUE: WR2/3
ANALYSIS: Back in the slot and matched against a terrible secondary, Chris Godwin is worthy of at least a flex start in Week 1.
According to Pro Football Focus, Godwin lined up out wide on 588 of his 891 offensive snaps (66%) last season. That’s about the inverse of 2022 when only 291 of his 881 snaps were outside (33%). It was a similar story (36%) in 2021. 2023 was his worst fantasy finish of those three seasons.
Throughout training camp, coaches talked about moving Godwin back inside. That was exactly the case during the preseason.
5. #Bucs promised all offseason Chris Godwin would return to the slot in 2024. Was in there on just 33% of snaps in 2023.
On Friday, Godwin made his preseason debut and was in slot on 6-of-7 snaps. Via PFF.

Godwin is also gifted one of the easiest matchups in Week 1. The Commanders were the worst pass defense in the NFL a season ago. They lost Kendall Fuller and Kamren Curl. The front office did add second-round cornerback Mike Sainristil and veteran Michael Davis. The rookie is atop the depth chart at nickel. Benjamin St-Juste, to who PFF gave a 48.7 coverage grade, is starting again.
Expect a healthy target rate with little resistance in Godwin's 2o24 debut. He's a lock for lineups in PPR formats and more than serviceable in non-PPR leagues.
