William Byron kept trying to get past Ryan Blaney for the final several laps at Michigan International Speedway. Try as he might, the No. 24 just could not get by that Ford until it was too late. He settled for a second-place result which was not all bad. Byron did start 18th and had a couple of near-wrecks along the way. Byron came from ninth after Stage 2 to nearly win the race. The Hendrick Motorsports Racing driver, like Blaney, had masterful help from his pit crew to keep minor problems with lift from becoming fatal ones. Byron dropped well out of the top ten at one point and was thought to be done for the day. He proved many wrong and by the end, his car was clocking laps a half-second to a full second faster than Blaney.--Chris Wassel - RotoBaller
