Daily Fantasy Baseball Streamers - Waiver Wire Picks for Wednesday, 7/28

Andrew Vaughn - Fantasy Baseball Rankings, Waiver Wire Pickups, Draft Sleepers

Baseball is back, and fantasy managers in daily leagues no doubt already have holes to fill. The easiest way to do that is with streamers. Fortunately, RotoBaller has you covered with daily streaming picks.

Each day, RotoBaller will provide you with some of the best fantasy baseball streaming picks - options to consider in fantasy baseball daily leagues. Additionally, these recommendations can be useful for fantasy managers setting DFS lineups.

Wednesday's big slate sees its first pitches at 1:10pm ET, and we have appealing streaming candidates throughout the day. Notably, there are quite a few road hitters that caught my attention this week, although both my pitching suggestions are toeing the rubber in their home parks. There are also two particularly scalding-hot backstops that are surprisingly low-rostered featured in today's article, with each player lining up especially well based on their matchups.

Be sure to check all of our fantasy baseball lineup tools and weekly lineup resources:

Roster percentages referenced are from Yahoo! leagues.

Hitter Streamers for 7/28 - Shallow Leagues

Alec Bohm (1B/3B, PHI) -53% rostered

Matchup: vs. WAS LHP Patrick Corbin

Bohm has been cleared from the COVID-19 injured list, and after making pinch-hit appearances the last two nights, he should be in the lineup Wednesday in a favorable matchup against Patrick Corbin. The veteran southpaw has already given up a home run to Bohm in seven career encounters and has been burned by right-handed hitters on the road for a .293 average, .383 wOBA and 2.3 HR/9. Meanwhile, Bohm went into Tuesday night’s action with a .306 average and .358 wOBA against southpaws, and a .374 wOBA and 134 wRC+ at home overall.

Eric Haase (C/OF DET) 51% rostered

Matchup: @ MIN J.A. Happ

Haase slugged a game-tying grand slam Tuesday and has been a terror against left-handed pitching during his breakout season, especially on the road. The hot-hitting backstop went into Tuesday having forged a .342 average, 1.191 OPS, .474 ISO and .492 wOBA against southpaws when traveling over a 40-plate-appearance sample. Haase is slashing .324/.342/.732 with a .448 wOBA against lefties overall in a larger sample of 73 PAs, while Twins starter J.A. Happ checks in with a .302 BAA, .393 wOBA and 5.37 xFIP against right-handed hitters, and a 2.3 HR/9 versus that handedness in his home park of Target Field. It also helps Haase’s cause that Twins relievers have struggled considerably against right-handed hitters of late, allowing a .308 average and .364 wOBA in that split the last two weeks of play (87-batter sample).

Andrew Vaughn (1B/OF, CWS) 41% rostered

Matchup: @ KCR LHP Kris Bubic

Vaughn is in the midst of a fine rookie season that already features 33 XBH (22 doubles, 11 home runs), a .258 average and a .773 OPS. He’s enjoying his best month of the season in July as well, posting a .320 average, .915 OPS and .385 wOBA heading into Tuesday night’s action. Vaughn has also been excellent versus lefties all season, as evidenced by his .305 average, 1.010 OPS, .426 wOBA and .305 ISO against that handedness, numbers accompanied by a mammoth 176 wRC+. For his part, Bubic checks in having given up a .270 average, .357 wOBA and 1.8 HR/9 to right-handed hitters, and he owns a 5.11 xFIP and 25.0 percent HR/FB rate across 20.1 July frames.

Kolten Wong (SS, MIL) -32% rostered

Matchup: @ PIT RHP Max Kranick

Kranick has had found left-handed hitters problematic early in his career, as he’s yielded a .308 average, .353 wOBA and 5.03 xFIP to the first 29 lefty bats he’s faced. Those kinds of numbers, despite the small sample, put Wong in play Wednesday in shallow leagues. The veteran second baseman has been solid versus right-handed pitching, particularly on the road, where he owns a .284 average, three homers, a .371 wOBA and a .222 ISO against that handedness. Wong also went into Tuesday night’s action with a .281 average, .361 OBP and .330 wOBA in July, and it’s also worth noting that Pirates relievers have pitched to an NL-high 7.54 ERA, a .289 BAA and a .387 wOBA against left-handed hitters in July.

Hitter Streamers for 7/28 - Deeper Leagues

Jed Lowrie (2B, OAK) 29% rostered

Matchup: @ SDP LHP Blake Snell

The switch-hitting Lowrie has been better against left-handed pitching, producing a .267/.320/.393 slash line versus that handedness. While it’s true that a bulk of those numbers have been built up at home, Lowrie has been a bit snake-bitten by an artificially low .245 BABIP when facing lefties on the road. For his part, the inconsistent Snell has had plenty of trouble against right-handed hitters, surrendering a .265 average, .374 wOBA and 1.5 HR/9 to that handedness. Snell has also given up a .356 wOBA in 14 July innings, and Lowrie’s 10.4 percent walk rate and modest 19.9 percent strikeout rate versus lefties could be trouble for the control-challenged Snell, who has a massive 6.7 BB/9 versus righties.

Max Stassi (C, LAA) - 24% rostered

Matchup: vs. COL RHP Chi Chi Gonzalez

Stassi makes for an excellent deep-league streamer against the highly vulnerable Chi Chi Gonzalez, who’s been eviscerated by right-handed hitters for a .293 average, .387 wOBA and 2.0 HR/9, including a 2.8 figure when facing them on the road. Gonzalez also sports a 5.47 xFIP across 21 July frames, while Stassi has been outstanding in same-handed matchups. The breakout backstop owns a .343 average, .995 OPS, .425 wOBA and .242 ISO against righties, including a jaw-dropping .444 average, 1.241 OPS, .524 wOBA and 10.3 wRAA when facing them in his home park. The good times should keep rolling for Stassi once Gonzalez exits, considering Rockies relievers own a 7.47 ERA, .299 BAA and .351 wOBA against righty batters over the last two weeks.

Christian Walker (1B, ARI) 21% rostered

Matchup: @ TEX RHP Jordan Lyles

Walker isn’t putting up noteworthy numbers by any stretch, but he draws a premium matchup against Lyles, who’s given up a .342 average, .373 wOBA and 2.5 HR/9 to right-handed hitters, and a .313 average and .357 wOBA across 48 home frames overall. Walker’s season was derailed early due to oblique issues, but he entered Tuesday’s action with a solid .286/.356/.429 slash line over his last 25 games, and despite this year’s struggles, he sports a .340 wOBA against righties on the road during his career.

Brian Anderson (OF, MIA) 12% rostered

Matchup: @ BAL RHP Jorge Lopez

Anderson was activated from the 60-day IL Saturday and has hit safely in all three games he’s played upon his return, including a 3-for-4 Tuesday night that included a home run. The good times could keep coming Wednesday, as Lopez comes into the matchup with a .330 BAA, .895 OPS and .389 wOBA when facing right-handed hitters at Camden Yards, a split in which he’s also yielded a 1.7 HR/9. Anderson came into Tuesday night already thriving in same-handed matchups, as evidenced by a .280/.357/.420 slash line and .342 wOBA against righties.

Pitcher Streamers for 7/28 - Shallow Leagues

Andrew Heaney (SP, LAA) 53% rostered

Matchup: vs. COL RHP Chi Chi Gonzalez

Heaney admittedly hasn’t been very trustworthy at times this season, but he does have good swing-and-miss stuff (10.7 K/9) and has given up three earned runs or less in 10 of 17 starts. He should find himself in one of his easier assignments of the season Wednesday against the Rockies despite Colorado’s unexpected offensive breakout Tuesday. The Rockies headed into Tuesday with an abysmal .179/.250/.310 slash line and  NL-low .249 wOBA against lefties on the road in the last month, and a .274 wOBA and - 14.7 wRAA in that split for the season.

Pitcher Streamers for 7/28 - Deeper Leagues

Zach Davies (SP, CIN) 31% rostered

Matchup: vs. CIN RHP Tyler Mahle

Davies’ two poorest outings this season were doozies, as he gave up a combined 15 earned runs over 7.2 innings to the Marlins and Pirates. Otherwise, he’s yielded more than four earned runs on only one other occasion, and he heads into Wednesday’s matchup against the Reds with a 2-2 mark, 3.38 ERA and 0.9 HR/9 in the 29.1 innings covering his last six starts. Davies has a winning record at Wrigley (4-3), and he’s been effective against current Reds bats both this season and over his career. Davies owns a 2.00 ERA and .188 wOBA over nine innings (two starts) versus Cincinnati in 2021, and he’s held their current hitters to a collective .224/.267/.338 slash line in 122 career plate appearances.
