Repeat after me....THERE IS NO OFFSEASON IN THE NFL. We have concluded with the big game and Tom Brady will be doing plenty of hand exercises to ensure he can handle the weight of the 7th ring on his digits.
Yes this is a 7-Round Mock Draft and you might think it's entirely too early for this level of prognostication. It's never too early. There are always players that fall and players that rise and even surprise(gonna rhyme with my time). The trick is to follow how players are trending. It only takes one team to believe in a player enough to call their name and come aboard to the show.
There are no trades in this scenario, all teams draft where they are currently lined up on the board. Once the Compensatory Picks are officially announced they will be slotted into their correct positions for Round 3-Round 7. Enjoy!

Round 1 - NFL Mock Draft
1. Jacksonville - Trevor Lawrence (QB, Clemson)
So what is it that ails the Jacksonville offense? The answer is everything. Trevor Lawrence is being dubbed as the “can’t miss prospect” at quarterback, probably the highest-rated signal caller coming out of college since Andrew Luck in 2012. When you think about Jacksonville Jaguar quarterbacks you think of Mark Brunell and then you struggle and come up with a few random names from the last 15 seasons.
Lawrence is the cure to what ails this team, a team that just three seasons ago was a game away from playing for the title. It starts at the quarterback position and a player like Lawrence will also help get the fans in the stands. Jacksonville has not placed in the top half of NFL attendance percentage (seats available against seats filled) since 2005. If getting Lawrence isn’t enough throw college coach and media darling Urban Meyer into the mix and you have a first-class overhaul for 2021.
2. NY Jets - Justin Fields (QB, Ohio State)
This is one of the toughest picks to gauge right now and it happens right at the top of the draft after the Trevor Lawrence slam dunk. The Jets are going through another total rehaul within the organization from GM, to coaches to coordinators on both sides of the football. The Matthew Stafford-Jared Goff deal has thrown the NFL into a frenzy as we will likely have to wait to see where the dominos fall with the likes of Deshaun Watson and Carson Wentz seemingly changing addresses for the upcoming season. Watson would be a huge upgrade but the fact remains that the Jets simply cannot afford him. New York is better suited financially to pay another top quarterback coming out of college top dollar, which is still considerably less than the money owed to a proven star of Watson’s caliber.
Penei Sewell may be the best player in this draft (yeah I said it) but the Jets need to start lighting up that scoreboard and a left tackle won’t do that. Ja’Marr Chase and Devonta Smith are bright and shiny toys that will flounder in the Big Apple without having someone to distribute the ball on a consistent basis.
The Jets could always go with option C…trade the pick and move down. There are enough holes on this team to justify the move if the Jets go with the quantity over quality approach.
3. Miami - DeVonta Smith (WR, Alabama)
With a pair of picks in the first round, Miami can go for the home run at the top of the draft. You wanna give Tua some weapons? Why not start with someone he used to chuck the pigskin to in college. This team is close to contending and division rivals New York and New England look to be comfortable gravitating towards the bottom of the AFC East. Miami has been excellent at finding overall depth in the last two seasons, now the offense needs more bite to get them over the hump of mediocrity.
4. Atlanta - Gregory Rousseau (DE, Miami)
This selection screams “TRADE ME TRADE ME” but in this scenario, no trades are recorded so we will act as if Atlanta stays put at #4. Here we have the Falcons going after an obvious need which is getting after the quarterback. While Tom Brady hoisted the Super Bowl trophy again for Tampa you best believe division rival Atlanta took notice of how the Buccaneers did it. The Tampa Bay pass rush was responsible and if the Falcons look elsewhere in the division the real reason why New Orleans has been close the last three seasons goes back to pressure along the edge.
Rousseau was a player who took a pass on the season due to Covid but his freshman campaign for the Hurricanes was epic with 15.5 sacks. At 6-7 and 265 pounds, Rousseau already has an NFL-ready body and will be able to contribute immediately.
5. Cincinnati - Penei Sewell (OT, Oregon)
Want justification for this pick then look no further than November 22, 2020. Joe Burrow in the midst of a record-setting rookie campaign has his knee shredded with a full ACL and MCL tear while suffering a partial PCL tear. Burrow should make his way back onto the football field this season and when he does give him the best tackle available. Cincinnati has holes all over the roster and both lines are where most of these holes are evident.
6. Philadelphia - Ja’Marr Chase (WR, LSU)
When the Eagles finish their 2020 highlight tape, they will likely tell Netflix and other streaming platforms to file it under the horror genre. Just three years ago the Eagles were basking in the glory of their first Lombardi Trophy. 2020 saw franchise quarterback pull off the best Jekyll and Hyde impersonation known to man. The regression was cataclysmic, this pick should be a wide receiver or a cornerback as Philadelphia needs wideouts that can stay on the football field and Darius Slay needs a true youngster that can be groomed to be #2 at cornerback. The Eagles whiffed when they passed on LSU wideout Justin Jefferson last season, why not go for an LSU wide receiver now to make up for the obvious gaffe.
7. Detroit - Jaylen Waddle (WR, Alabama)
Hard to make heads or tails out of what will happen in Detroit with the new Dan Campbell regime. Jared Goff takes over the controls and he needs people to throw to. It is highly unlikely that the Lions bring back both of their top wide receivers from last season as Kenny Golladay and Marvin Jones are free agents.
8. Carolina - Zach Wilson (QB, BYU)
Teddy Bridgewater is not the long term answer in Carolina and the team and it’s fan base knows the organization overpaid heavily a season ago. Bringing in a quarterback like Zach Wilson makes a lot of sense as he won’t need to be rushed into the role. Bridgewater would likely stay with the team for a reduced rate after the season and Wilson can be groomed to take the position, likely sometime during the season. There are a few off the field concerns that we feel will make Justin Fields the obvious choice at #2 vice Wilson but he will be in the running to come off the board after Lawrence.
9. Denver - Micah Parsons (LB, Penn State)
The explosiveness and playmaking ability of Micah Parsons makes him one of, if not THE most intriguing player in the first round. Parsons is the guy who is one nearly every board but where is he seen as the #1 option. Parsons can literally go from #3 - #16. The obvious need for Denver lies in the secondary especially when nearly half your games are against Derek Carr, Justin Herbert and Patrick Mahomes. In this scenario the top linebacker and corner is on the board and Denver can ask themselves who is the best athlete. Parsons wins this argument over any of the corners on the board and Denver looks at the secondary in the next few rounds.
10. Dallas - Patrick Surtain II (CB, Alabama)
It doesn’t matter if you are a fan of the Dallas Cowboys. Even the most casual observer of the game ends up watching them at least twice a year, those networks love giving America them Cowboys. If you go back and watch film from this season just play the Keystone Kops theme when the Cowboys are on defense. I don’t make the rules, that song is the Cowboys Defense spirit animal. The loss of Byron Jones was huge for this team and generating pressure up front was inconsistent leaving this undermanned secondary on an island. Surtain makes any team that drafts him instantly better as he has the tools to start as a rookie.
11. New York Giants - Caleb Farley (CB, Virginia Tech)
While wide receiver may be the biggest need in this scenario you can’t ignore that Caleb Farley is still on the board. Cornerback may be the one position where taking a year off due to Covid may have pushed a couple of people like Farley closer to the top of the board. After 2020 pick Andrew Thomas suffered an uneven rookie season you better believe that Giants will not be addressing the offensive line with their top selection.
12. San Francisco - Trey Lance (QB, North Dakota State)
It’s unlikely that Lance lasts this long. If Lance falls out of the top 10 then expect teams to be making moves to grab him at the tail end of the top 10. Here we will envision the 49ers going to get him. This is an interesting landing spot since there are a lot of comparisons between Lance and Colin Kaepernick. Lance only played in 1 game in 2020 so he will need to show a little more at his Pro Day.
13. LA Chargers - Christian Darrisaw (OT, Virginia Tech)
With Penei Sewell being talked about all year and the versatility of Northwestern product Rashawn Slater on display, Christian Darrisaw has become the forgotten top prospect at offensive tackle. He is forgotten to the draftnik community, not NFL war rooms. Darrisaw may have helped his cause more than any other prospect at any position in our strange 2020 season. Darrisaw has been a starter since his freshman season and his progression has been fun to watch. Darrisaw looks like the real deal and a franchise left tackle something your NFL Offensive ROY at quarterback will appreciate.
14. Minnesota - Rashod Bateman (WR, Minnesota)
Justin Jefferson has raised the bar in Minnesota but they are an offense that is best suited for three solid options at wideout. Putting Bateman with vital components Justin Jefferson and Adam Thielan will make Minnesota lethal on offense. Bateman fits the profile of the two aforementioned receivers. He can play outside and is proficient in the slot, making these receivers interchangeable and causing matchup nightmares. If Minnesota goes for a defensive player look for an inside presence along the line as it is likely no tackles will yet be off the board.
15. New England - Kyle Pitts (TE, Florida)
Pitts has the chance to come off the board as early as #6 if the Eagles feel like making Pitts the new Zach Ertz. San Francisco will look long and hard at #12, even Carolina at #8 if they stray from the quarterback position. With so much attention and being a prospect that is miles ahead of the next ranked player at his position, this makes Pitts a prime candidate have a team trade up for his services. He just falls outside the scope of being the #1 target for a number of teams and here he slides to a very happy New England Patriots squad. It is no secret that quarterback may be addressed in the draft or via free agency or trade so a wide receiver in a tight end's body is a great start for upgrading the arsenal.
16. Arizona - Jaycee Horn (CB, South Carolina)
The mantra “there are no true blanket covers in the NFL” is disproven by Jaycee Horn when you watch the tape. Surtain is the most well-rounded corner in this Draft as his run support is superior. Caleb Farley has the length and freakish athletic ability with an unlimited ceiling. Jaycee Horn is simply the stickiest of the top prospects. Like Surtain he is of NFL lineage being the son of former NFL All-Pro receiver Joe Horn. Even though Jaycee is on defense the apple didn’t fall far from the athletic tree. Arizona is a year ahead of schedule on their rebuild plans and nearly made the playoffs in 2020. Now time to fine-tune the roster and loading up for Russel Wilson and Matthew Stafford is one of the top priorities. This move makes even more sense since it looks like Patrick Peterson may finally be on the move meaning the secondary will have a new look.
17. Las Vegas - Carlos Basham Jr. (DE, Wake Forest)
The Raiders had to be one of the most disappointing teams of 2020 when you look at the roster and where they were early in the season. We saw in the Super Bowl what getting pressure on the quarterback does for a football team. Maxx Crosby was winning his share of battles against opposing offensive lineman while everyone else looked like they were sleepwalking. We are starting to hear the dreaded B-word to describe the play of Clelin Ferrell and reinforcements are needed up front. To be blunt, had the Raiders had an assembling of a consistent pass rush they breeze into the AFC playoffs. Las Vegas looks to right the ship and keep the buzz from their first full year in Las Vegas going.
18. Miami - Travis Etienne (RB, Clemson)
Over the last 10 years, the Miami Dolphins have only had a running back top 1,000 yards twice (Jay Ajayi 1,272 2016 and Lamar Miller 1,099 2014). With a pair of first-round picks the Dolphins could upgrade a team that is very close to being a serious threat within the AFC. The Dolphins have their quarterback of the future so adding a stud like Etienne would go a long way in the run and the passing game. The versatility of utilizing the receiving skills of Etienne gives the Dolphins an added dimension they did not have in 2020 out of the backfield. The Dolphins like Myles Gaskin and he would prove to be a perfect complement and change of pace back. If Etienne is off the board you can fit Najee Harris in as a power option and Miami instantly upgrades their offense.
19. Washington - Alex Leatherwood (OT, Alabama)
Will Alex Leatherwood be a tackle or a guard at the NFL level? Best scenario is to find a team with immediate needs at both areas of the offensive line and let his play dictate where he starts. This would be the case in Washington where the defensive line is all the talk while the offensive line resembles a patchwork quilt. Trent Williams was traded away to San Francisco before last season and his presence was sorely missed. The backend of the defense will require attention as this roster has a lot of holes to fill. Ron Rivera has his work cut out for him in year two but the core of the team seems intact and the culture is changing.
20. Chicago Rashawn Slater OT Northwestern
The pick here is an offensive lineman as we expect the quarterback carousel to make a stop in Chicago and drop off a Carson Wentz or Deshaun Watson. Rashawn Slater is the versatility king of the linemen in this draft and we have him staying close to home while giving Leatherwood to Washington at #19 due to their propensity to draft talent from Alabama. The offensive line struggled in pass protection and in the run game it was far from consistent. Slater is a huge value if he is still on the board at #20.
21. Indianapolis - Kyle Trask (QB, Florida)
This is another pick that will depend greatly on the activity in the quarterback market and if Indianapolis brings in a new signal-caller. One thing Indianapolis has going for itself is cap space as Indianapolis is a playoff team that is already about 50 million or so under the cap figure. This means Indianapolis might be able to afford the services of a Deshaun Watson or a Carson Wentz or just bring in a player who can be a stop-gap. If this happens expect a QB here that will be ready for 2022 or even 2023. There are more pressing needs along the defensive line but Indianapolis is in a position to make a run right now and depth and another receiving weapon or two is all they feel they need to contend.
22. Tennessee - Jeremiah Owusu-Koramoah (LB, Notre Dame)
Tennessee has the type of secondary that is good in short bursts, in other words, the lack of a pass rush hurt them last year. Help on the edge or a playmaking linebacker would change the dynamic of the defense. Tennessee will need other weapons, I mean let’s face it, the history for NFL running backs the season after topping 2,000 yards is far from stellar. Tennessee has some nice running backs behind Derrick Henry (Jeremy McNichols and Darryton Evans). While Henry is still the man in Tennessee we should see more work for those behind him to keep him fresh for another playoff run. This means it won’t all be “three yards and a cloud of dust” football. Finding the playmakers on defense to go with the best safety in football on the backend (Kevin Byard) should be the primary focus. Owusu-Koramoah showed there is nothing he can’t do and he can lineup at multiple linebacker positions.
23. NY Jets - Najee Harris (RB, Alabama)
When your team finishes 31st in total offense grabbing a new quarterback and a running back in the first round seems like an important investment and upgrade. Le’Veon Bell in New York was a nightmare and who is the starter right now after the Bell departure? Do you resign Frank Gore, the only man who cashes game checks and Social Security checks simultaneously? Frank Gore is an age-defying beast but he isn’t a runner your franchise should be counting on. Harris also seems to have the temperament and maturity to handle the spotlight in New York, a city that has chewed and spit out great athletes in the past. If Travis Etienne is still on the board you better believe the Jets turn in that card lickety-split. Najee Harris is on the same level and would ease the pressure on a rookie quarterback.
24. Pittsburgh - Creed Humphrey (C, Oklahoma)
Pittsburgh fans please don’t divert your eyes, please hear me out! The Steelers are notorious for being very stingy with free-agent signings and letting players walk when they start to reach the end of their careers. Alejandro Villanueva leads a list of 3-4 players who could be on the move. While Villanueva is a tackle here the Steelers grab the best center on the board in Creed Humphrey. Humphrey likely would have been the first center selected last season had he declared himself eligible as a redshirt sophomore. Pittsburgh fans, the days of Maurkice Pouncey dominating the line are over. In fact, Pouncey statistically was one of the weakest centers in the NFL in 2020. If the Steelers make the move here don’t expect it to be the only time they look at the offensive line as it will be an area they look at during all three days of the Draft.
25. Jacksonville - Samuel Cosmi (OT, Texas)
By this pick, we expect the Jaguars are still on a euphoric high after landing Trevor Lawrence, start to protect your investment. Samuel Cosmi is far from flashy nor is he a freak athlete. Cosmi is a beacon of consistency and someone who refined and improved his technique game after game after starting 34 games for the Longhorns. It’s a deep class at tackle so Cosmi is not guaranteed to be a first-rounder. Being selected in the first round by Jacksonville is a safe selection and he should contribute right away.
26. Cleveland - Wyatt Davis (OG, Ohio State)
Wyatt Davis has been the top guard in the draft for most of the season. In this scenario going to the nearby Browns, a team that is one of the few run-first teams in the NFL makes sense. The biggest issue surrounding Davis is health. Davis has stated he is fine since leaving the National Championship game against Alabama with a knee injury. Teams will point to the fact that he was helped from four separate games this year with leg injuries and missed large chunks of three due to the injuries sustained. If Cleveland doesn’t go for Davis look for another lineman or even an edge rusher as they try to add even more bite to a stout defense.
27. Baltimore - Trevon Moehrig (S, TCU)
Baltimore has become one of the most exciting offenses at the NFL level as their rushing statistics from the last two seasons show their attack is the cream of the crop. When you think about Baltimore the first thing that comes to most people’s minds is a swarming and physical defense. Getting a safety and more pass-rushers will be the top priority for this team. Selecting Moehrig, a player who can even play at linebacker if asked, will also allow for Baltimore to adequately fill the role of Earl Thomas after he was cut last season.
28. New Orleans - Terrace Marshall (WR, LSU)
It’s a coin toss for the Saints at the end of the first round and here it was just a matter of some quality wide receivers being available. Depth at linebacker is a concern as is the question the Saints have asked themselves the last four seasons regarding Drew Brees and retirement. There may be one more season within Brees but the urgency to have him back in the fold doesn’t seem to be present. Taysom Hill would likely stick around and the reigns for the offense full time would go over to Jameis Winston if another quarterback is not selected.
29. Green Bay - Rondale Moore (WR, Purdue)
Players along the offensive and defensive lines make more sense but remember last year and Jordan Love? This isn’t a team that drafts for a position, the Packers have long utilized the best player available approach. Getting Rondale Moore would qualify as a steal for the Packers and would justify a first-round selection on a wide receiver.
30. Buffalo - Asante Samuel Jr. (CB, Florida State)
Just because the Buffalo Bills reached the AFC Championship Game doesn’t mean they are a team without needs. The Bills have more holes than many of the top teams in each conference due to some contracts that have run their course. Like Green Bay, Buffalo goes for the best player available which came down to Samuel and rising Tulsa linebacker Zaven Collins. If the Bills have a few contract lapses at linebacker a player like Collins makes a great deal of sense. A bonus having Asante Samuel back in the AFC East. Just seeing that name on the back of a jersey should make some division opponents shutter after dad did a lot of damage as a member of the Patriots.
31. Kansas City - Nick Bolton (LB, Missouri)
Hard to think of the Chiefs needing anything other than offensive line help after watching the Super Bowl. This is a deep draft for offensive linemen and there is a chance that maybe someone slips to Kansas City they are enamored with. Nick Bolton is a local product whose stock is on the upswing. Help along the interior of the defensive line or even some help at safety are strong possibilities.
32. Tampa Bay - Daviyon Nixon (DT, Iowa)
Ndamukong Suh was a forgotten component of Tampa Bay’s defensive success for most of the season. Suh added 1.5 sacks in the Super Bowl and there is no question he is a great fit for the Buccaneers. Tampa has to do some roster trimming, however, and Suh may be one of the cap casualties. It might be more likely that Suh has his contract restructured and they bring in new blood for the future. Nixon is just that, - an unpolished gem at defensive tackle and he is just starting to come into his own. Nixon posted 13.5 tackles for loss, adding 5.5 sacks as one of the most disruptive defensive forces in the Big Ten. Nixon is still raw but a system like Tampa Bay would welcome his talents. I would expect the pick to be at linebacker or an edge rusher if the interior isn’t addressed in the first round.
