Pelicans guard JJ Redick is a worthy consideration as a fantasy basketball waiver wire pickup heading into Week 2 of the NBA season.
BALLER MOVE: Add in 14-Team Leagues
ROSTERED IN: 33% of leagues
ANALYSIS: I must admit that I loved J.J. Redick's addition to the New Orleans roster last season to go along with the younger likes of Brandon Ingram, Lonzo Ball, and Zion Williamson. JJ was a 13-year vet when he signed that deal and is now entering his 15th pro-season. Even at age 35 last season, and given his playing profile, Redick was still able to start 36 of 60 games while playing 26.4 MPG. Not bad for an oldie like he is these days.
In a primary/secondary split role last season, Redick put up a 15-2-2 line that clearly makes him a target for GMs looking to bump up their points cat. Redick shot a mental .453/.453/.892 splits while attempting 10+ FGA and 6+ 3PA per game. His role won't change a lot this year, and his debut could very well describe what is ahead for him.
Redick played 28 minutes off the pine for the Pels and finished with 23 points thanks in part to his 6 treys against Portland to kick the 2021 season off. He added 3 boards and 1 assist to his line, hit his lone freebie, and shot 57.1 percent from the floor. That's JJ for you: a natural-born scorer with watered-down upside on the rebounds/assists/steals cats.
