Matt Carpenter Out of the Lineup on Thursday

St. Louis Cardinals third baseman Matt Carpenter (rest) is not in the lineup for Thursday's series opener against the Rockies. The 33-year-old is stuck in a 9-for-46 slump over the past month and is batting just .105 over the past week, so he will sit for the second time in three games. Carpenter's overall numbers in 2019 are not much better with totals of 11 home runs, 33 RBI, and a .212 batting average through 97 games. Carpenter can safely be dropped in standard mixed leagues if he has not been to this point. Tommy Edman will fill in at third base and bat seventh against Rockies right-hander German Marquez.
