Daily Slivers of the Fantasy Soapbox - Yesterday's Recap

Ellis Canady reviews last night's MLB box scores (6/25) and provides fun opinions on a variety of topics to help fantasy baseball owners with their lineups.

Welcome to the Wednesday, June 26th edition of Daily Slivers of the Fantasy Soapbox.

Discussing baseball is as fun as the game itself. It has a way of bringing people together to share different opinions about the sport we all love. A similar action can be done with fantasy baseball where we not only discuss topics but also look to improve our teams as well as the teams of our fellow fantasy baseball enthusiasts. Everyone has their own perspectives which are not to be cast off as frivolous. They should be used as a method of expanding our own knowledge.

In this article, I review the previous day's boxscores and provide my opinion on a variety of topics. Some will be random, some will be fun, and some will be stat-driven. It's a soapbox so I may rant from time to time as well. So without any further delay, below are my thoughts on June 26th. Enjoy them. You can even respond with your own thoughts on Twitter @EllisCan2.

Daily Musings

  • Manny Machado sends season’s greetings to Baltimore fans w/17th HR.
  • Fernando Tatis Jr. looking good atop the Friars lineup. Ninth HR. Keep an eye on 30%Chase & 14.1%SwingStrike rates.
  • Jeff McNeil. Hit Machine. 4-for-5 w/RBI. .348AVG.
  • Scott Kingery at leadoff. 6HR, 11RBI, .345AVG over last two weeks.
  • Mets bullpen wastes absolutely no time in giving the game to Phillies. Three ER in the bottom of Sixth. Embarrassing bullpen.
  • Can we get regular yoga time for the big man? Giancarlo Stanton w/“knee contusion.” Awaiting word.
  • Yankee Powerhouse sans Stanton: DJ LeMahieu(11), Aaron Judge(6), Edwin Encarnacion(24), Gleyber Torres(19).
  • Sneaky Vulture. Brandon Workman w/third SV. 7-1 record too.
  • Rafael Devers w/three doubles. 4-for-4 brings AVG back up to .317. Would generate more stats if he stays near the top of the order.
  • Stop trying to look like an All-Star finalist Xander Bogaerts. Your 15 HR, 53RBI isn’t good enough. Speaking of not good enough, this applies to you too, Devers. (Statement includes two trial-size pouches, fill 1/4 of the way, of Sarcasm. Use liberally).
  • Blake Snell owners. You thought you wouldn’t need that brown paper bag anymore. Just like last time, breathe into it to prevent hyperventilation. (3.1IP, 7ER, 4K). After two minutes of breathing, put it on your head. If results continue, we’ll start drawing faces on the said bag.
  • Jack wasn’t nimble; Jack wasn’t quick; Jack got smacked around by Oakland sticks. 4.2IP, 7ER, 5K. Jack Flaherty not looking like breakout candidate from 2018.
  • Logan Allen takes advantage of the weak (BAL) (6IP, 2ER, 5K). Hold on, SF next.
  • Marcus Semien 11th HR. Underrated.
  • Dan Vogelbach w/19th bomb. No need for Edwin Encarnacion.
  • Kike Hernandez loves facing Robbie Ray.
  • Mitch Garver w/12th tater. Heel pain be damned.
  • Max Kepler hit on the elbow. No Whammy, No Whammy, No Whammy!
  • Eddie Rosario 4-for-5 w/2RBI. Jumps AVG to .278.
  • FIIIRE!!! (Ohio Players version) Chris Taylor w/3HR, 11RBI, 2SB, .478AVG in last week.
  • Ian Desmond again. 11th HR. Can’t get rid of this guy.
  • Third times a charm. In first two starts, he couldn’t get a W. This time, Max Scherzer dominated the Marlins for 8IP, 1ER, 10K. 7-5, 2.52ERA, 156K in 114.1IP. That’s why some chose him in the first round. 4.6WAR. DET next…but does it matter?
  • Trea Turner shall not be contained. No, not talking about the base paths. Talking about the brute strength; the 418ft rocket for his sixth HR.
  • Brendan Rodgers to IL w/shoulder impingement. Had a great opportunity with Trevor Story on IL.
  • Back-to-back HR games.
    • Rhys Hoskins feelin’ frisky. Also, three HR in four games. 24.7-degree Launch Angle. Wow! Ranks second overall. NASA approved.
    • Yuli Gurriel. 2-for-3 w/2RBI. 7th HR. 3HR, 8RBI, .300AVG last couple weeks.
    • Joey Votto. It’s a miracle. Temper expectations. Just breathe. Try to remain calm.
  • Brad Hand w/five ER in zero IP. I know, the spin is rooming. Put a garbage can by the bed. Lay down. Don’t forget to keep one foot on the floor or ceiling.
  • Andrew Heaney w/W, but looking a little Wild Thang-ish. 4BB in 5.1IP w/4K.
  • So many delicious Grand Slams being served this year. Hunter Dozier — you know, the All-Star finalist — with the latest order. Breakout.
  • The wonderful music of Moonshots, played by Carlos Santana. Played the song 18 times this year.  .290AVG too. Me likes.
  • Adbert Alzolay w/4BB, 4K, 1ER in 4.1IP vs Braves. Not bad. Too wild though. PIT next.
  • Ronald Acuna makes it look easy w/19th HR. 9.5% Brls/PA.
  • Ozzie Albies half way to career-best (24) in 2018. Wish he batted higher in the lineup.
  • Jake Arrieta. 6IP, 5ER, 2K. Wild win.
  • Enjoy your Wednesday baseball with a few afternoon games.
  • No Fear, Just Fantasy.
