Adalberto Mejia Gets Past Control Issues For First Win

Minnesota Twins starting pitcher Adalberto Mejia earned his first win of the season on Monday against the Toronto Blue Jays. The big left-hander had the luxury of playing in the climate-controlled Rogers Centre and with a big lead, and he was evidently more confident than in his first start of the season in Chicago against the Cubs. That said, his win against the Blue Jays didn't come easy. Toronto wrapped eight hits against Mejia, including one home run, but they couldn't seal the deal with runners in scoring position. Mejia walked two batters and struck out three before departing in the sixth inning in the middle of a bases-loaded jam. Reliever Matt Belisle came in the game and secured the final two outs of the inning to protect Mejia's performance. Even with Ervin Santana's eventual return, Mejia will probably get another start soon. It remains to be seen if he can string two solid performances together.
